pikarceus (2012-03-17 03:07:11)What about length? How much playable content are we looking at here? I'm still on the fence about getting this.
The review: VERY well written, just could use a wee bit more detail.
Dragnet (2012-03-17 11:27:34)Added more complaining about the gameplay. The controls are fine, and overall, not too shabby. Anything else?

What I wanna know is where's the caveman
Why are all games reviewed here with such a high score?
Mario Kart 7 got a 9. That would mean that this game is as good as Mario Kart 7...
In my opinion, 9.5 is the highest a game could ever get, since 10 means a game is perfect, but nothing is perfect.

Dragnet (2012-03-17 12:19:33)Sorry. I couldn't find that many things bad about it that required lower scores, and the final grade is an average of the three other grades.
What I wanna know is where's the caveman
pikarceus (2012-03-17 13:21:58)@Rob-9.75
Besides, there are some games that I would give a 10/10 just very, very few.
pikarceus (2012-03-17 13:24:19)@Rob-Not all my reviews are high scores.
I gave Lego Star Wars III a 6, Spider-Man Edge of Time a 6.5, Ghost Recon a 7, Swapnote & Mutant Mudds a 7.5.
You happy?
THaT1GuY9001 (2012-03-17 13:36:35)What about music?
@Rob - Because people here look for good games! And I gave Ace Combat a good score because it deserved it!

Dragnet (2012-03-17 15:12:18)Content? Already added-16 levels. Music? I'll make a new section.
What I wanna know is where's the caveman
pikarceus (2012-03-17 15:16:52)16 levels is more than I thought there would be. I think I'll get it.
Dragnet (2012-03-17 15:34:54)Made a new music section. However, the grade, as an average, still stands at 9...
What I wanna know is where's the caveman
Ron1212 (2012-03-18 06:37:21)In GameInformer, Skyward Sword and Arkham City were one of the only games that got 10/10. And then recently they gave Skyrim game of the year award....pathetic.

Gameplay:
Mighty Switch Force, part of the series including DSiWare games Mighty Flip Champs! and Mighty Milky Way, is a game where you take control of Patricia Wagon, the cybernetic police officer, with her trusty Pellet Gun and handy Helmet Siren. However, her Helmet Siren isn't just for show-you can press the A Button to alter the world around Patricia in 3D space, switching various platforms between the background and foreground. This twist adds a whole new level of platforming never thought of before. Just what I'd expect from WayForward. However, there are a few annoyances. If you switch a platform into the foreground while something's in front of it, it'll be crushed. That does not exclude Patricia. Unfortunately, switching while jumping becomes a pain when, if you are too close to the platform, the switching crushes you by a toe. It's annoying, but the checkpoints are there, so it's a little better, but at certain annoying points, there are no checkpoints in sight. Another thing is: Getting hit by an enemy takes away one health point. Normal, right? Well, so does falling on spikes and being crushed. All of those things take away only one health point. Since there's plenty of health restoring items around, the danger's a bit hampered, but it's still annoying, considering the spikes and crushing require checkpoints and getting hit by enemies doesn't. However, there are only 16 levels. The first few are easy, the next few are harder, and the last few are even harder. I'd prefer more content, because 16 levels is not that much. However, the 3 health point limit with no "lives" sometimes require the level to be played over and over until it becomes repetitive, so at least that's good (not).
Graphics/Controls:
The graphics are a perfect fit for the 3DS, much like WayForward's DSiWare games had great graphics themselves. The 3D fits well with the graphics, too, avoiding bad 3D zones (i.e one place looks better than the other in 3D). The cartoony graphics add to the feel of the game, enhancing the fantasy element by using perfectly constructed cartoonish figures. So, let's ignore the..."chest physics" that WayForward tends to add, and focus on the amazing feel of the game, which the graphics definitely enhance. As for the controls, they're great. Easy to master without the need for lengthy tutorials. Always needed, the simple controls make this game easy to pick up and play in an instant.
Music:
The opening theme and main menu theme are both remixes of the themes in the previous games (Mighty Flip Champs! and Mighty Milky Way), however, once you get into the levels, the music becomes a psuedo-techno beat, the perfect music for a robotic police officer to arrest intergalactic criminals by. The music really symbolizes the funky platforming twists that the game throws at you. I'd say the music is a perfect fit.
Overall:
If I had to describe Mighty Switch Force in a few words, I'd say it's innovative and brilliant. Just what I'd expect from WayForward. Ignoring the small amount of content and the various flaws, this is pretty much worth the $5.99 plus tax. If you don't care about only having 16 levels, go ahead and buy it now off of the eShop. I'm sure you'll be glad you did.
GRADE:
Gameplay:8/10
Graphics/Controls:10/10
Music:10/10
Overall:9/10
FINAL GRADE:9/10 (based on average of all four scores)
