Wii remote won't turn on

I'm not sure what's wrong with my remote i put fresh batteries in and it will not come on. I never spilled anything on the remote. Does anybody have a clue as to what might be wrong? Before you guys ask i don't know if the remote came with the wii i got the game system used.
