Umbreon is such a tank. And so useful for competitive battling - mainly for Special Attackers.

With base 130 special defense and base 110 defense, this thing may have to be hit twice with close combat and probably 3 times with focus blast to KO.

The basic set you'll see is: wish, protect, boton pass, and payback, with leftovers, careful nature, and synchronize ability. Tho it may be useful, I've come up with my own set that I have been very successful with.

Umbreon:

Item: leftovers
Nature: careful (+SpD, -SpA)
ability: synchronize

Moveset:
Foul play
Toxic
Moonlight
protect

The main purpose of this set it to take down a Specially Attacking tank with a toxic stall.

Protect:
To protect against an attack. This move could be used just to see what your opponents first move is, incase you wanna switch out and let someone else take the hit, or toxic or burn stall.

Toxic:
this status attack gets worse and worse as the pokemon stays in. After you use this move, immediately stall the toxic and go for protect just to let poison get worse and deal some more damage.

Moonlight:
to heal up. You can stall out poison even more by going for protect again after healing up.

Foul play:
This move is really useful, for high Attack stat foes. The higher the foes Attack stat, the more damage it does. If the opponent sets up a swords dance, you can deal a huge amount of damage - if your umbreon manages to live.

Use Umbreon properly. You don't exactly have to use it the way I said. Just use whatever strategy you have to your advantage. If you have another set, please let me know and comment below.

Or you can have Curse, Protect, Wish and Payback running it with a Lum berry and Synchro.

Umbreon @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 248 HP / 152 Def / 108 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Wish
- Heal Bell
- Toxic
- Foul Play

Main purpose for EV spread: With this EV spread, assuming that it has 31 IVs in HP, Defense, and Sp. Def, Umbreon will have 393 HP and 323 Defense/Sp. Def, making it both physically and specially defensive, with neither stat being higher or lower. (In other words, use only strong, super-effective attacks on it. Taunt it, if possible.)

Main purpose for Bold nature and 0 Attack IVs: To weaken an opponent's Foul Play.

Wish: Heals Umbreon or its teammate. A teammate with very low base HP loves this.
Heal Bell: Cures Umbreon and/or its team of all status ailments (if Umbreon isn't asleep or frozen).
Toxic: Oh, you trying to out-stall Umbreon? Not immune to poison damage? Get badly poisoned. Can't Rest? Can't use Heal Bell/Aromatherapy? Have fun suffering!
Foul Play: Murders physical sweepers that can't kill Umbreon in one hit. Can OHKO Mega Mewtwo Y.

Weaknesses: Taunt (especially if the Taunter is faster); strong, super-effective special attacks; strong, super-effective physical attacks that will OHKO Umbreon.
