Cartridge: Paper Mario Sticker Star
Toad88 (2013-01-12 23:06:07)Sounds cool.
This is a signature, isn't it GREAT?
(but seriously isn't this great?)
MeNobody14 (2013-01-18 00:14:33)I'M GETTING THIS TOMORROW! I totally can't wait!
It's time for review, kiddo!
pikarceus (2013-01-23 23:31:03)I got this a few days ago, and I have to say I'm not that impressed.
One problem is that there isn't much of a story, lots of dialogue yes, but the story is about as thin as a sheet of paper. (Pun intended)
Another thing that bugs me is no leveling or exp or anything from battles. Is this an RPG or what!?
The thing stickers are also poorly implemented in puzzle solving, there is no logic to some of the solutions of in game puzzles which really, really, really bugs me.
It's not bad, just not the mind-blowing game people make it out to be.
Mind if I review it once I beat it? Not trying to steal your thunder or anything, but I think people could use a second opinion.
MegaBeanish (2013-02-27 07:13:35)I love Paper Mario! Good review. Sticky.

MeNobody14 (2013-04-27 10:58:40)This game is dissapointing. I agree with pikarceaus. Ther is no story. No leveling. No side quests. Its just like a paper mario bros game.
It's time for review, kiddo!
MeNobody14 (2013-07-12 00:23:04)I just made it to world four, and it has been one dissapointment after another.
-Boss battles are crappy. Each boss has a certain weakness, ("Things"
-World four, five, and six, you have to travel by boat to each of 'em, and every single time, you have to screw with Bowser Jr.
It's time for review, kiddo!
SuperShadic76 (2013-08-11 01:57:22)Im gonna get it and see how it is.Its not really that good but its an good game to test but not a best game not fully an RPG game you exp and all that RPG asomeness so PIK is kinda right but the review longer than before and you made the game more exciting than it is.(YOU made me laugh when you said it forces you to search on wiki lolz!

An all new Paper Mario game has come out on 3DS with new features and a revamped battle system. This game seemed to have a lot of hopes going for it at E3. So does this game live to what we dreamed of? Did Intelligent Systems actually create the best Paper Mario Game? Is this really worth 40 dollars? Will I every stop asking questions? Find out in my Paper Mario Sticker Star Review
Story
Unlike the New Super Mario Bros Series, this spinoff features a new story totally different from the last entry. The usual Sticker Festival is happening at Decalburg(Main hub/home area), when the Sticker Star comes down to Earth and grants wishes. Well as you guessed, Bowser screwed it all up. By touching the Sticker Star, it splits up into different pieces and scatters all over the land. So Mario has to go find all the pieces, and did I mention that Bowser stole Peach too while he was getting out? So as always, you travel the lands as Mario (Never Luigi

Controls
Controls are very easy. A to jump, B to smash objects with your hammer, and Y to paperize. Paperization is when you freeze time and solve puzzles by pasting some of your own stickers into selected spots. But controls get complicated when entering battle. In battle you can select "Stickers" (Battle Commands) on the touch screen, and press A at the right time to make your attack stronger. This brings a turn based battle system to this game, and it feels just right. Controls are pretty easy to jump into and don't pose much of a problem.

Battle
So in the game whenever you bump into monsters, you get into a turn based battle against that monster. In these battles you use "Stickers", these items will determine if you win or not because you need stickers to battle. Selecting stickers will make you do the selected command of the sticker. It is best to bring a wide variety of stickers since there are a wide variety of monsters with different effects and such. In battle, you or your foe can be inflicted with statuses like crumpled or soaked that pretty much makes the inflicted user not able to attack for a certain number of turns. It seems like a simple system, but it gets way more complicated as you progress in the story. Since you are battling, you and your opponent(s) have health bars. If your run out of health, you have a game over and must start from the last start point. If your opponent looses all their health, they die and you win the battle. You can restore your health at selected points, or you can use a Mushroom Sticker which heals you. Also, attacking the monster with your hammer or jumping on it gives you an advantages when you enter battle. But if a monster attacks you with spikes or poison, you have a disadvantage when entering battle.

Music/Sound
Just like every other Mario game, they have that catchy tune of music. This game uses new and catchy tunes, different from other Paper Mario games and it never gets old. I found myself becoming extremely bored in one part of a level when there was no music. This catchy and go-happy music creates a certain mood in the player. As always, a job well done by Nintendo for orchestrating such creative music and not re-hashing older songs.
Stickers
Like I said, stickers aid you in battle and are needed to even battle. Stickers are found everywhere, in the bushes, tress, everywhere. Every sticker you collect is stored in a Stciker Album that stores your stickers (But it has limited space). Every sticker has its now special characteristic, no sticker is the same. There are battle stickers and thing stickers. Thing stickers are things (real life objects in the game) that you turn into stickers. Thing stickers are much more bigger than battle stickers and take up a lot of space in your album. But thing stickers are amazingly powerful and are very helpful in boss battles. Stickers pretty much make up the game, and I think it is quite amazing how one new concept can make an entire game.

Graphics
This game looks gorgeous, unlike anything I have seen on the 3DS. It uses crisp paper-like graphics. It may seem like a bad combination, but you should see it in action. The graphics and frame rate are steady and the quality you get out of it is remarkable. This game is so colorful with detailed backgrounds, it even gives NSMB2 a run for its money. The game never gets visually boring, always coming up with new things to spice the visual up a bit. And the 3D, is FANTASTIC. This game pushes 3D to the limit making little particles and squished goomba faces come right at you. The 3D is both inward and outward which makes for a good combination. I recommend you play most of this game in 3D.
^This is a beautiful game
Platforming
Like all Mario games, this one features Platforming. Jumping from block to block and exploring the world. This creates mind bending puzzles and fully crafted worlds for you as the player to uncover. They made this game brilliant with Platforming adding so much depth to the world. I bet that you cannot get through this game without using a wiki to solve some of these puzzles.

Extras
Just because you beat Bowser does not mean it is over. This game feature achievements that you can gain through out the game. These achievements prolong this amazing game, and keeps the adventure going. Another thing you can keep busy at, is the Sticker Museum. You unlock it by Paperizing the fountain in Decalburg and save the toad that was run over at the beginning of the game. Once you save him, he will unlock the locked house and unlock the Sticker Museum. Once unlocked, you can see the different Stickers you have collected throughout the story. It adds a Pokemon like feature to this game. But you must fill the Museum with your own Stickers, so look forward to a lot of Paperization to fill it up.
The Verdict
This game is one of the games the 3DS has to offer with crisp visuals and an awesome story. This adventure should not be missed by fans and others alike. This is another job well done by Nintendo and really shows something in the Quaility vs. Quantity statement. If you don't pick up this game, you might as well be eaten by Boswer.
Final Score: 9.3
