Theres supposed to be a super volcano under Yellowstone National Park. It is already over its due date for its eruption, which would fill the sky with ashes and such.

Think of the irony in this; Mayans predict the end of the world, but they don't predict their own end.

Chances are, the Mayans thought that their calender was just a little too big when they created December 21 2012, so they ended it there.

The Mayan's were freaked out by the Spaniards, not only because they had horses and guns, but because there was a legend that one of their Gods would return from his exile to violently reclaim the empire, which was stolen from him by another God.

Evidently, some believed Hernan Cortez was the god because of his strange appearance and his 'power' to 'shoot thunder'. The ones that did believe this knew how the story would end, so they sided with him.

Hernan Cortez, while not on the scale of Hitler, still reached the top 20 for number of kills by slaughtering everyone in the Mayan capital, Tipochtitlan.

Well, we really can't change a person's thoughts. People have tried, but the closest we got was Stalinist Russia.

Besides KayKay, this isn't the first time we'll get mass suicides/rioting/looting because the world was slated to end. Someone, somewhere, will spout more nonsense about a predicted doomsday when this is over, people believe it despite the fact that it's supposed to have happened several times by now, and the cycle repeats again.

Starting from 2000, I'll make a list of predicted apocalypse/armaggedon/doomsday dates

Y2K: 2000 (I've survived that)

Niribu: 2003 (I survived it)

Rise of the Anti Christ: 2006 (Lived through it)

December 21st 2012: (Still waiting)

They aren't "predicting" the end, they just say that it will and hope they were right.

It's like someone saying "You need to get your brakes replaced" in your new car, and after several thousand miles you need it to get the brake pads replaced they say, despite being wrong the 600 times before, "I told you your brakes needed to be replaced"
