It's worth it. I wasn't an FF fan either. Also, the EMS songs contain visuals from the games, but they are all random moments, so I really don't think it will spoil you.

The game is a rhythm game, but it has RPG elements, and the rhythm relates to actual things you would really do in an FF game.(Cross fields, fight monsters)

The demo doesn't really showcase the game, just some songs.
But look, the game has
-Great graphics
-Great sound(Duh)
-Tons of content
-DLC
-Local multiplayer
-StreetPass

Don't hate rhythm games, this one is fun.
