How to be awesome with a laser staff
pikarceus (2012-07-08 02:28:14)Flintlock is decent but very small hitbox and terrible melee. Plus it gets weaker as you get close.
pikarceus (2012-07-08 02:42:57)Blades are decent but like I said a good staff can hit you anywhere on the stage, you can't hide.
Yeah before laser I used flintlock a ton, probably toughened up my aiming. @Dsiguy
pikarceus (2012-07-08 13:45:56)Re-aiming only takes a little bit. Standing shots are fine, they can still 1 hit kill and don't leave you vulnerable like dash charged.

pikarceus (2012-07-08 16:48:28)Magnus Club is a fine weapon, but it is overused and abused by fools who can't even properly use it. They are very trigger happy just throw up a reflect barrier and they will usually wipe themselves out.
Ron1212 (2012-07-08 20:33:39)How much value should the laser staff have?

Laser staff in my opinion is the best weapon in the game, I've had great success with it, easily beating all my fellow clan members and even holding my own against Jeran with it. The secret to my success is knowing the weapon, knowing how to use it, practice, and a power set to compliment the weapon.
Laser staff standing charge has a range of 117m, truly insane. All shots have insane range, conti will be 66m, dash charge will be an absolutely astounding 123. No one will be able to flee the range. Another great bonus is distance doesn't affect damage, you will do as much damage up close. Speed is eh, but you can dominate the match with just walking around letting off charge shots. Melee is acceptable for a staff, if you have the skill don't shy away from getting into melee. I would prefer to use it to finish opponents off though.
Aiming. Laser staff has a great hitbox, so screw sniping. Here's a big staff tip on moving targets. Don't shoot where they are at, shoot where they are going to be. If a person is running left, shoot to the air to his left, you'll nail him. That really is a recipe for success. Vertical shots really are a no brainer, just practice. If claw users are screwing with you dodge away and do a backwards dash charge shot.
Okay mods...Only must have is poison, if you can't kill them the poison will leech off them for a bit, maybe finish the job.
For stars, my staff has 5 range, 3 melee and it works great, get below that and you are getting on the weak side though. Mine could be better, but it has +5 Full health boost and +4 backwards cont fire, so it's great.
Powers are pretty important, don't use stuff like comets, explosions, mega lasers, none will do as much damage as your staff. Focus on building the power of your weapon while protecting yourself. Two good options are trade off and energy charge. I prefer energy charge, go level 3 and you really get a lot of uses. At full energy charge It boosts the staff from a being two hit kill to one hit kill. Use reflect barrier to deal with trigger happy staff opponents and Magnus club noobs, and Bumblebee to dodge crap that they will chuck at you and sneak attacks. You can go trade off, but the one use is just bleh. Playing Dead is another good option.
My power set is
Energy Charge level 3
Reflect Barrier level 2
Bumblebee level 3
Health Restore level 1
Why am I telling you this? Because when it comes down to it, it is skill and aiming. Laser staff has zip homing, so if you can't hit jack energy charge doesn't worry me much. In the end, PRACTICE!
Hope this gave you some ideas on how to use the best weapon in the game (imo).
