My cousin brought his Vita over yesterday, my 3DS was lined up right with it so comparing them were easy.
I think the Vita has a great design, the screen is so huge, and the resolution is amazing.
The graphics were impressive, but not mind blowing. Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 looked as if the 3DS could run it.
The Vita is also very light, contrary to what a lot of people say.

The AR games are a huge 3DS rip-off, the Vita even has its own AR cards. And they're HUGE. Instead of being one app, there are three separate AR apps, and honestly, they suck.

The Vita's camera may be 0.3MP like the 3DS camera, but the quality was better, especially in low light conditions.

The touchscreen controls are another rip-off, they are tacked on at every turn. My cousin had to use them so much on the Vita while I was using buttons on my 3DS, that my Grandmother asked me if the 3DS had a touchscreen like Vita. *facepalm*

And multi-touch sounds superior, but it isn't. I found it very difficult to type on Vita, but it is quite easy on 3DS.

And yeah, the Vita's PSN is just as half-assed as the eshop used to be. No PS1 games yet, not all PsP games, etc. Vastly inferior to the PS3 PSN.

Aside from AR games, the Vita doesn't really have much compelling software. My cousin was B-O-R-E-D.

So yeah. I'd probably give the Vita a 7. Good grafix but too dependent on the online(He didn't have internet at my house and could barely do anything) and really a big 3DS rip-off. I mean, play it for yourself. It is amazing how gimmicky and tacked on the AR and touch is.

I have both a PSVita and a 3DS. And I agree with your cousin. My PSVita is B-O-R-I-N-G at the moment... Some good games really need to come out...

Now, if only Fred Blankenburg was here. He'd at least try to give a good counterpoint, because he has both a 3DS and a Vita. Unlike the stupid Sony fanboys that have their "counterpoints" rely solely on "LOL THE 3DS DOESN'T HAVE COD SO ITS STUPID!!1!1one"

Jeran- Uh.. Nintendo wanted to team up with Sony (They were just a TV and sound company at the time) and make a CD add-on for the SNES/NES. But Nintendo chose Philips instead and Sony ended uo making the PlayStation. And Philips got Mario and Zelda, making the famously crappy CD-i games.

Small graphical changes?
The PS Vita is 10x better than the PsP.
It has a touchscreen and built in cam.(PsP didn't)
The graphics are waaay better. PsP is below the PS2 which was the 2nd weakest console of the 6th generation. The Vita is almost PS3 level.
Also, the PsP had a stuby single analog NUB, while the Vita has two proper analogs.
Saying the Vita is pretty much the same as the PsP is like saying the 3DS is pretty much a DS.
And nothing modern? The Vita is the best quality handheld gaming device to date.
5 inch OLED screen pwns a 3.3 inch LCD screen, even with a stereoscopic 3D effect.

But yeah it won't go far. Nintendo snagged Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Kingdom Hearts and the Vita is getting pwnd because of it.
The Vita may get those series(if it ever picks up in sales)
But if it keeps selling 10k a week, no self respecting 3rd party will touch it.
But Sony has bought tons of companies so the thing may struggle on for awhile.
