All DS consoles can get the red screen of death like I had on my 3DS and my DS Lite.
Its a guru something something error with all these error codes.
Anyway the 3DS has got hacked by a group of developers but unfortunately 3D mode and graphics do not work at all at the moment.
There are developer versions of the 3DS which you can create and place homebrew on but unfortunately they do not support the e-shop, any games/apps which are from the e-shop and game cartridges I assume.
Black Screen Of Death is often a firmware or kernel panic so the 3DS is bricked due to a corruption to the bootloader, kernel, boot or the system itself.

This screen means your 3DS has crashed for some reason or another! I f you wait for the battery to die out it may end up working again...
