Just before anyone starts calling fake on this, okay, I thought I'd leave this info here:

I've always been quite reluctant to post about this topic, because I don't like to post stuff that sounds dramatic, amongst various other reasons. But now I figured I might aswell just share the story.

It was the morning of day 2 of a school trip I was on.

First activity our group had was raftbuilding, a activity I was nervous about.

To make a long story short, we went to the raftbuilding. We were to base a raft on two windsurfers. We set about making it.

We gave it an unmanned test run in the water it seemed to float.

Then we had to do a MANNED test run of it.

This put me at unease. Electricity doesn't work well with water, and I don't either.


So, we went on (sat down) on the raft and all was good.

Then we were asked to STAND UP on the raft.

The other guys on my raft stood up and I was semi-stood up, pretty scared to say the least.


The raft began to sink.
I was fairly scared, since I have really bad luck when it comes to water. A few things have happened bad in past, and this time is no different.

I fell into the water and hung on the remaining bits of the raft with my life. Then it was going to tip over.

It did tip over.. on my head.

I fell deep into the water, and then I heard the life jacket thing pull me up. Phew I thought. Maybe I'll be out this river in no time. I waited patiently.


I realized I wasn't moving. The raft's remains had got my helmet trapped. I tried to push it off to no success. No matter how I tried this thing was interlocked with my helmet and I couldn't see anything to analyse any problems. I felt hopeless.

I was stuck there for a couple minutes when I started to have no air at all. I started to choke and inhale the water...

I managed to unclip my helmet and swim to the surface.

I couldn't see properly at all, just figures.

I saw the teacher and heard him say 'Are you OK, Oliver?'.

I tried to respond that no, I was not ok. But I couldn't talk, literally. All that came out was a hrrrrrh screamy-type sound.

That's when I began to panic; I couldn't see and I couldn't talk. And I felt sick.

I simply collapsed on to the bank.


And I don't wish to go to further detail, but now I'm terrified of being in boats or water-based transport vehicles.

And now I remember this experience every time I see murky water, sometimes just plain water. Some people were interested if I had mares of the night, answer is yes. I remember that night the event repeated itself over and over in my nightmare.

@deathgamer Maybe I didn't emphasize the fact my helmet interlocked. Ninjaedit'd that (in red).

It's never a element of ability, just an element of indirectly making stuff go wrong (helmet -> stuck)

I almost drowned when I was 4. I was pushed into the water by my swimming teacher. I didn't swim. I just sank to the bottom of the pool. I walked about 4 feet, then collapsed slowly, and started floating upwards. My swimming instructor just lifted me out of the water. I gasped for air, started choking on my own saliva, then just went on with life...

Surprisingly, I'm not really afraid of deep water. It's strange...
