As for religion being a cover for the fear of death, that also depends on which religion you're talking about. Some religions rather fuel that fear.
The most common conspiracy about religion is that it's just used for control (which, it certainly has been in some cases), however I believe all humans are naturally spiritual and direct that to different things, whether it be a religion, belief in paranormal, aliens, spirituality in general, etc.. You may not believe in God or aliens, but everyone believes in something.

I suppose it can become complicated when there's talk of temptation from the devil or God inspiring thoughts/words, however I don't believe there's a constant battle of spiritual beings influencing your thoughts...on a daily basis I think it's just our conscience and sin nature which tempts us or guides us. From reading the Bible it would seem outside sources only influence us periodically. It's certainly clear that we have the ability of choice, which is why I say we have our own consciences.
Christianity certainly fuels fear of death, imo...with hell and all. Living as a Christian is a full sacrifice to Christ, meaning you'd have to live your life in accordance to all His laws, which naturally we don't find very appealing...so I could confidently say, Christianity is not an invention to soothe fear of death if people would have to sacrifice so much. I think Hinduism or reincarnation would serve that purpose better.

Why would the big bang just all of a sudden happen? A big explosion where everything just came out of? Sounds like god to me.
I respect other beliefs so if you disagree, that's fine just don't say "I'm your God" as @TapRoot0ak would be a terrible God, soz.

NodePoint (2017-02-13 18:32:40)If the answer was so simple and there was one answer then I doubt there would be all these God-involved religions (basically, the answer would probably be either one or none). You could say that it's very subjective.
Keep in mind that we haven't witnessed the God and Big Bang Theory thing visually with our own eyes in a healthy enough state. Sure, the BBT has some evidence of it actually happening (which I'm not going to bother getting into) but it really isn't that absolute.
As far as I know, it's at least to do with experiences.
Personally (and I'm going to be straight-forward), I don't believe in there being a superhuman nor do I care (or to keep it more respectful sounding, mind) if there is one. Regardless if you have a religious belief or not, I respect that.
Just please, don't shove beliefs down anyone's throats. It's just plain rude whatever the reasoning behind it is. (Just to make it clear, that includes whether or not you're religious. No exceptions. Again, I couldn't care less what you go with.)
