SMOGamerX (2017-02-04 20:33:14)Well technically this isn't treated like a gaming website. Most active people left which is a good and bad thing, new people come but the thing is is that they joined once and forgets it. Not a lot of people know how It works to be on 3DSPlaza like forums, pms, profiles, and sometimes chatrooms and so they dont really bother and leaves.
Rob said that he is going to make another
I was helping this website to have some people in it but sadly, they are either not interested or like I said before, doesn't know how to use it.
Remember: Just when the caterpillar thought its world was over, it turned into a butterfly!
The website Rob plans on making is in the future. We need to keep our active members around until then, even if Rob does get other people to join on his own or else this community will disappear for real.
If this forum board became active enough, there are people who would come despite this being a Nintendo website, and I'm sure it would be the meme communities.
An active version of this website that's allowed to use profanity would inevitably be full of ironic self depreciating memes, because that's what a lot of people here seem to be into to an extent. When other meme heads see that in these forums, they'll definitely want to join in on the action. I'd be able to speed up that process because of the connections I have (dozens of meme centered websites and communities)

TapRoot0ak (2017-02-04 22:34:35)Rob Should really make a new website. It shouldn't just surround the 3ds, which is outdated now. Should be open for everyone, not just Nintendo users. Not saying you couldn't just because you didn't have any of their products. Just saying more heads would turn if the title wasn't 3dsplaza.
Honestly considering the way Plaza's community has behaved all these years, I'm surprised Rob still has inspiration to try again. I suppose making a site not related to Nintendo might help attract a more mature demographic, but we'll see.
At this point I see no reason why we shouldn't merge the forums. I think we could still keep a few categories though...maybe the "This Plaza" forum and all of its sub-categories. Otherwise, I don't see the "forum page getting bogged down" being an issue with a community this small.
I still don't think we should mess with the standard rules though. Swearing is just uncreative expression. It may let the angst flow through the forums more smoothly but I don't think that would make them any better...or attract people to use the forums more, for that matter.
When people resort to using swears to emphasize a point, it generally turns me off from their reasoning, because if they really can't come up with a more eloquent way to explain their opinion then it's probably not thought out well enough. I just lose overall respect for it. Of course that's not always the case (nor the end of the world), but it might not be such a bad thing to encourage more civilized conversation...frankly I think that's why we have that rule, rather than protecting the already perverted minds of children.
P.S....the only change I'm definitely not okay with is Anti's new avatar. No one should he allowed to change their avatar after decades of being known for having a specific one

The reason I'm in favour of swearing is because of those moments that come up when "crap" and "freaking" just doesn't work with the tone you're trying to convey, whether it's humorous, serious, etc. I'm not exactly sure how to explain this reasoning, since you might not relate to it, but for me and some other people, phrases that contain cuss words occasionally are part of the "voice" our personalities have, if you know what I mean.
Also, there are many memes I've wanted to share here that I couldn't because they contained a swear word or two. They were pretty spicy memes, but sadly, they can never see the light of day here.
As for my avatar, I'm willing to make a trade. You guys give me my handy dandy cusswords, and I'll give you the old avatar with the chess pieces (if I can find it).

Oh, I suppose that makes sense. On any other site I'd agree, but with the track record that Plaza has of users going out of control...I don't know, I just feel like the community would somehow go even more downhill of we took the swear censors away. Might just be whatever "dictatorship" I have left within me that refuses to let such a "vulgar idea" become reality
Also, I'm totally kidding about your avi bbcakes
I see what you mean. I also have a feeling that a group of users would find a way to make it a mistake to allow swearing, but it would only be a short term problem. An annoying, but temporary price to pay.
Also, I think I should clarify that the message of this thread isn't directed towards you at all. You've never prevented necessary change, and you're not part of the problem. I've never been on the "Lani is too strict" bandwagon.

You won't see me here, but you might find me if you look in the right places.
BioMan8 (2017-02-05 22:12:13)While we're on the topic of things we can do, why not add a rating system? Maybe we could even have a little mascot, like a little alien holding a 3DS? And how about we replace the banner with something that looks like this?
I get that having separate forums is a bit inconvenient, though your changes sound like you want to reform this site to a kiddie pre-2008 reddit.

You guys seem to want the forums to become active again, right? So why is it that nobody's trying to do anything about it? Also, how come whenever someone comes up with an idea, you guys shoot it down immediately?
For example, one person suggested that all the forums be merged into one, so that the topics of discussion in the misc section would not be limited, and because so many forums for certain kinds of discussions are not active. Because those forums aren't active, we are limiting ourselves even more.
Only the "right" kinds of discussions are allowed to be had in the misc forum, and those do NOT include video games, the website itself, writing, anything about one user, anything personal, art, this website as a whole, and other things I could be forgetting to mention. Because of this, half the threads made here get closed before a discussion can even happen, but let me get back to that.
First, let's discuss how you responded to his suggestion of merging the forums. A couple of people were in favor, but others just flat out rejected it immediately without giving a reason. Why is that? Do you want the forums to become active or not?
This isn't even the first time suggestions have been shot down immediately without any consideration. But still, you guys complain. So what exactly is it that you are asking for? Are you expecting the forums to magically become active if you complain enough? That's not the way it works. There has to be a reason for people to come back. Something has to happen.
Now, I'm going to tell you, once again, what will make the forums become active.
1. Allow profanity. No, that doesn't mean bring porn gets to be all over the place. We can easily create limitations (one thread per subject, or, porn in general banned). Don't give me that "but there's kids here" nonsense. I've already explained multiple times why that argument has no weight and I'm not doing it again.
2. Merge the gosh darn forums. For Pete's sake, why are we closing every thread that's "off-topic" if this is the only forum that has topics in the first place? If we can't get Rob to merge the forums, then why not treat Miscellaneous like a merged forum? Because it's against the rules? I think this website dying altogether may be a wee bit worse than us coloring outside the lines a little, but hey, if you don't think so, suit yourself.
3. Once these first two suggestions are carried out, the forums will inevitably become interesting. This is when we reach out to other people, wether they are former members of this website or people who have never heard of this place who just want a fun forum board to mess around on, and have them join. This will require that little email thing to go away.
4. Stop closing all the threads. Not "meaningful" enough? We don't know until we see how it develops. It isn't easy predicting which threads will generate the most discussion.
5. Stop ignoring the pros of other people's suggestions to fix this place while putting the cons on a pedestal. You're acting like you've never been anywhere else on the internet that functions without the bizarre limitations 3DSPlaza has.
"Did he really just point out that I'm complaining about something but not doing anything about it? How dare he!"
If this is going on in your mind right now, then please, feel free to enlighten me with whatever reason you can come up with to tell me I'm wrong. Don't forget to be a condescending asshats while you're at it, as that has been a tradition here since the beginning, no?
Here, let me help you out in case you didn't read this thread.
TLDR version: You guys are complaining about inactivity. You do nothing about inactivity. Above are suggestions to fix the problem that you've denied despite your complaints.
That tl Dr was only three sentences, but I'll stick around to correct the miscommunications that develop due to people not reading the whole thread, as is tradition.
I'm looking at other forum communities to potentially join in the future if this one doesn't become woke again. I'd prefer this one, but to be clear, it isn't a big deal to me if this website dies or not. I'm just attempting one last time to give you guys a nudge in the right direction.
