So obviously it is clowns who are at the woods. There was a news report about it and people like cops and news reporters are taking this too serously. They said that there has been clowns who offers them candy or money (classic). They also have a weapon like a knife that they use to kill mostly kids. As they tried to find any evidence, they haven't found anything whatsoever but there has been many sightings about them but they still havent found any evidence of it. Most people say that its hoaxes or a myth.
However, there was one big incident that was about a kid, at age 16, got killed by a clown during a fight in school, the clown hasn't been found.
Fun fact: This wasn't the first time that happened, way back at i think between 1980s to 1999 something like this happened and the clowns were called something that I forgot what it was.

I think that other than that killing incident, It can be very possible but i think that people just make things up because if they're wasn't any evidence, high chances is that its a hoax. It can also be pranks because I know a lot of people would do these things. But I think that its safe for you to not to trust and clowns and go around them
