I want to learn how to use Flash, mostly for animation, but my father says it's a lost cause because it's dying out and by the time I get done learning it, my new knowledge will be pointless because Flash will already be dead.

Is he right?

Flash is still being used for animation in many animation studios. In fact, it's very popular when it comes to 2D animation.
The question here is: what other better software is out there that would make the "Flash is dying" thing the case?
As Erman said, it's only and should be dying for web design.

It is, but I feel he has a rather low opinion of the show, so I didn't use it as an example in our argument because I felt it wouldn't help my case very much.
