If I take an interest in someone, I just approach them and try to strike up a conversation. Don't let things get awkward. Ever. After a few conversations, or maybe just the first, ask for their contact info. Like, their kik or something, not their email. Phone number maybe.

I have only ever made friends through shared interest. There may be other ways though.
