We used a different hard drive now, it has Windows Gay Pee on it. It has trojan viruses on it, so I'll keep this open a bit longer in the case scenario that my computer dies.

If you upgraded your XP to 7, then you will need to download the (sound) driver for it (assuming it's the sound that's the problem)

Basically, just search [computer brand, not version] sound drivers, for an example, when I upgraded my DELL XP to 7:

"Dell sound driver for XP", or something like that, just stay on the official site, don't go to any other.

Then, you will want to go into Safe Mode and run what you downloaded off the site.

If your internet isn't working, update Windows 7.

EDIT: Just read the OP again. This is assuming you have Windows 7 on your XP right now, not having trouble actually getting it.

Windows 7 is fine, idiots. Just like when people say "You didn't upgrade to iOS 8? You're a weeaboo!", when I still have iOS 7 (because it's better than iOS 8).

Windows XP, so much memories. Sorry, I can't help, I'm not a computer expert.
