Slowly. Unless it was something more painful than getting stavbed in the stomach and bleeding out (burning alive for example) I would want to use that time to say goodbye to them. Despite being in pain, that's what they would want too. Think about it, wouldn't you die slowly to say a proper goodbye? I would.

If a person is dying slowly, you would have a chance to say goodbye unless there is a way to avoid your loved one from dying, and if your loved one dies quicker, they wouldn't suffer as much pain and you wouldn't have the chance to say goodbye to them in a much proper way
