Introduction
The eshop may have a solid range of applications now, ranging from Nintendo Video to Netflix, but when it first launched, the only 3DS Download application it had was a little something called Pokedex 3D. Nintendo managed to cram quite a bit into this free app, making it quite the enjoyable experience while it lasts.
Graphics
Pokedex 3D offers a variety of things, but a spend most of my time on it gazing at the beatiful 3D Pokemon models that put Pokemon Battle Revolution to shame. The 3D is subtle, but impressive when you make the Pokemon do one of their moves.
Sound
No music kids, but you can listen to Pokemon cries in Pokedex 3D. It should be noted that the cries in Pokdex 3D actually sound like real Pokmon cries, not the odd static sounds that you hear in the games.
Gameplay
You look at Pokemon, you read their stats, download new Pokemon daily via spotpass, that's what it's all about in Pokdex 3D. One excellent feature I enjoyed was the AR card feature, print out Pokedex 3D QR codes, and the Pokemon come to life right in front of you!
For some Pokemon that can't be obtained over Spotpass, there is the option to trade with friends via local wireless. Not the most exciting stuff, but Pokdex 3D isn't a game, and for an app, the "gameplay" is very well rounded.
Set-up
Pretty excellent set-up.
Almost everything can be accessed from the touch screen, you can scroll to which ever Pokemon you want to view via the touch screen, go through the moves, stats, etc. Of course, Nintendo being Nintendo, you can also use the "customary controls" (A.K.A buttons) for most of the navigation as well.
Content
Over 150 Pokemon to collect, three a day downloaded from spotpass. Yes, this could take awhile. You can also gain additional features by collecting AR stickers by scanning Pokedex 3D AR markers. Then, to get the few Pokemon unobtainable from spotpass, you'll have to find another Pokedex 3D owner and trade data. Considering it is free, Pokedex 3D offers quite a bit.
Conclusion
Pokedex 3D is a well rounded, efficient, jam packed app. Did I also mention it's free? Pokemon fans will love it, and even if you don't like Pokemon, download it now!
