~Any advice on digital drawing?~

This is pretty much my first thread in 3 years.

So like any "moderate" digital artist, I need to improve my skills.
Badly.
Specifically, I'm having shining prolems.
I have sooo much trouble while trying to add shine to different parts in a drawing.
Look at my crappy shining skills show

Well I use this one app on my Samsung tablet called SketchBookX by Autodesk. It's a pretty nice app. Except for the layer and tool limitations.
There's also a few nice versions of this app.
I recommend it.

Here's the tools show

Anyways, these are the tools I use to shine.
-repeating things- show

The first two are airbrushes. I have no idea what the blue tip one is called, but I use it to spften things up a bit.
It's pretty obvious that I don't use these tools correctly.
I mean just look at the First drawing.

Agh I write too much.

Steps on how I draw digitaly:
1 Do the outline show

2 Add the color on a different layer show

As you can see I added different shades of a color on the top so I can eyedrop it later. [IMG]http://i.imgur.com/kC6x0gh.jpg[/IMG]
As you can see the eyes are already done.

3 Shine show

Now I use the eye drop tool to grab the orange color and then adjust it so it can be lighter.

Not so great.

I reeeally want to improve.
So if you have any advice, especially on shining, please tell me.

I think it's perfectly fine.

Then again, I'm not the one to come to for advice for digital drawing. Your art style is great, btw.

Open if you are ready for me to sound like an ass:

If your going for a manga type shine, you need to quite trying to make it look realistic. As a professional digital artist, I am payed to do manga editing/creating, and one thing that you never do is use that kind of shine. A shine is usually a series of very close lines, that get longer the more towards the middle you get. Also, hou can also do a series of zig-zagged lines, but make sure the are close together, or people notice that you are an amateur. Shadows are the same, except crosshatch, instead of lines all the same orientation.

Your style needs work, because it's more shoujo(cartoony) style than realistic. Too much like a person doing her best to seem cute, but inevitaly failing. Keep the head the way it is, but the body needs to be enlarged a bit if you're planning on using hands. You might be abled to pull off a chibi/shoujo style, if you keep the hands as little stubs with thumbs. That is what looks good.
