How To Create A Successful Game Series
ultraguy4 (2013-12-24 05:04:15)Call of Duty was a 'meh' kind of series in the gaming community before Modern Warfare. People knew about it, but most flocked to Halo, DOOM 3, or Half-Life at the time. Then, Modern Warfare came out, and revamped multiplayer gaming. Subsequent sequels added to and tweaked the formula, but never really added any standout features. They're solid games, but we've seen them a lot at this point. The problem was, their formula was a bit too solid. It was great, but couldn't deviate too much from its core without ticking off a lot of people. There was actually going to be a 3rd person action/adventure CoD, but got pushed aside for MW3. It shows they're at least trying to think of something new.

BRING ME YOUR VIRGINS.
ultraguy4 (2013-12-28 05:02:35)Mario (even though he's not as pure of heart as we were all fooled into believing) has managed to hold up all these years because the lore surrounding the game is somewhat vague, but just outlandish enough to put in new twists and spins on the formula that don't seem out of place. CoD was designed as more of an action/adventure title with sim qualities. It's supppsed to be "realistic" [using this term loosely]. If they try to deviate too far from the realm of probability, then they lose a good chunk of their audience who were used to the intense, gritty gameplay.
BRING ME YOUR VIRGINS.
espace39 (2013-12-29 14:57:58)Or you could pull an EA and Overhype your game for months with cinematic trailers that show little gameplay and focuses on tiny, insignificant features, release it before it's finished with a £50 price tag despite the game being full of highly exploitable glitches, ban people for life for using the glitches accident or not, Make it so you have to pay another £50 For a "premium" account and treat all non-premium players like dirt in order to convince you to buy premium so you can "save money" on DLC's that haven't even been released yet.
