To the town of Agua Fria rode a stranger one fine day
Hardly spoke to folks around him, didn't have too much to say,
No one dared to ask his business, no one dared to make a slip
The stranger there among them had a big iron on his hip..

The story I Don't Belong, is a 91-page story I wrote when I was grounded from 3DSPlaza. I'm currently typing it and will soon publish it with Blurb.com. I have decided to also share it with you. Enjoy!
Chapter 1: The Blue Blur
I sat calmly in the quiet field, hearing only the sounds of teeming life and the soft breath that entered and exited my lips. I gazed at the world around me. Everywhere I looked, each thing seemed familiar, yet oddly foreign. It was as if I didn't belong with it. Some part of me seemed to know that I didn't belong in this field, in this town, on this planet.
That's when I first saw it. That sudden flash of blue, with a hint of red. I watched as it dashed from one tree to the next, kicking up grass and dirt. It circled me, until it was right behind me. I saw a gloved hand reach out, and touch my shoulder. The mysterious Blue Blur, as I would later refer to it, spoke softly in a voice that seemed all too familiar. "Alexandra, we meet at last" I sat there, frozen, unable to move.
Taking in a deep breath, finally I spoke. "I didn't think our meeting would ever be possible."
He smiled and walked around me to a point where I could see him clearly. I gazed at him, taking in every detail of his body, which I already knew by heart. The red shoes with the white straps and golden buckles, the long, thin legs, the small egg-shaped body with a peach belly patch, the peach muzzle with a small black nose, the large, green eyes, and the long, blue quills.
I never thought I'd meet who stood before me now. "Sonic The Hedgehog's the name, and speed's my game!" He shouted gleefully. I smiled then.
"I know who you are." I told him. He laughed and struck a little pose, which made me laugh. "What are you doing here?" I asked calmly, "Shouldn't you be on Mobius with the others?"
He got back into a normal position and placed his left hand on his hip. "Good question." he stated with a grin, "I'm here looking for you." I stared at him with a shocked expression, barely able to speak.
"Sonic The Hedgehog... Is looking... for me?" I stated awkwardly.
He gave me a bit of a skeptical look then. "You seem... surprised."
I gave a little scoff and blurted out, "Of course I'm surprised! You're a flipping hedgehog form the planet Mobius looking for a human!"
He began to look around nervously then. "Quiet!" He said sharply, "No one else can know I'm here!" I just sat there and stared at him blankly, trying to put the pieces together.
"You're a very imaginative artist huh?" Sonic stated suddenly.
"H-How did you...?" I began to state.
He raised his hand to silence me as I trailed off. "Poke'Cat The Hedgehog-Pikachu." He calmly said. I stared at him with a shocked expression as I saw a flash in the corner of my eye. I turned to see my creation standing before me.
Red shoes with white straps and gold buckles like Sonic, a beautiful blackish-red strapless dress with short black sleeves, a white muzzle with a black nose and scratches under the eyes, the long white hair with red rings, the large ears with red tips and the big aqua colored eyes.
Poke'Cat The Hedgehog-Pikachu stood before me. Created 200 years ago in a lab by the scientists who created Mewtwo, she was meant to be a Pikachu with the power of every Poke'mon, but one of the scientists accidentally combined her with the DNA of Sonic The Hedgehog.
"Poke'Cat..." I gasped suddenly.
Her eyes sparkled as she spoke, "Yes Alexandra. It is me."
Sonic smiled and gave a bit of a chuckle. "I never thought my sister would be the creation of a human's mind. Well, part human."
I stared at Sonic as he said this, bewildered by his words. "Part?"
Poke'Cat turned to face her brother Sonic, the rings coating her body shimmering a vibrant blue along with her eyes. Sonic's eyes went blank for a moment, as if he was in a sort of trance. I knew in an instant that she was using telepathy to speak to Sonic without me hearing. Suddenly I spoke my mind without really meaning to. "You know, it's rude to speak to someone with your mind while others are present." I slapped my hand to my face, regretting the words that had poured so easily from my lips.
Poke'Cat's rings returned to their normal red color and Sonic's eyes no longer stared blankly into space. Poke'Cat smiled slowly and began to laugh, as did Sonic. Slowly I removed my hand from my face."Wh-What's so funny?"
Through her laughter, Poke'Cat managed to say,"You silly! Nothing ever escapes you, not even for a second!" I smiled a little then and started to giggle along with them, which quickly turned into uncontrollable laughter.
As the laughing died down several minutes later, things became more serious."So what did you mean by part human?" I asked cautiously.
Poke'Cat sighed a little and said slowly,"I'm not so sure you're ready to hear this Alexandra."
Suddenly I heard a voice calling my name, "Alexandra! C'mon! It's time for dinner!" I frowned and looked over to Poke'Cat and Sonic.
"It's my mom." They nodded to me, indicating it was okay for me to go.
"But,"I began to protest, "What about you guys?" Sonic smiled.
"Don't worry," He said confidently, "we'll come with you, just be looking for us soon. Oh, and don't say anything to anyone about us, okay?"
I nodded and stood, preparing to head home for the night as Poke'Cat and Sonic bid me goodbye for now.
Chapter 2: Discovery
I bolted across the field, my arms flung back behind me, running the way Sonic does. I lept over the stones that surrounded the field and landed in the middle of the road. I looked up to see a truck barreling straight towards me, showing no signs of stopping. In a sudden scary and unexpected burst of speed, I was on the opposite side of the road, nearly 3 feet from my driveway."What the..." I mumbled, quite confused. I pushed the incident to the back of my mind.
I brushed off the pine needles cradled carefully in my shoulder and forced myself to run up my driveway like a normal human being. I ran out of breath quickly and burst through the door."Sorry!" I gasped, "I was singing in the graveyard by the horse farm." My mom smiled and set my plate down at my place at the table. The scent of chicken cordon bleu wafted up to my nose and I sat down and began to eat.
"So," my mom started off, "who were talking to in the graveyard?" My mouth half full, I forced myself to swallow as I looked up at her.
"Uh," I began to stutter, but quickly became more confident, "Well, I was kinda... talking to myself."
My mom paused for a moment as she lifted a forkful of chicken stuffed with ham and cheese to her lips."Talking to yourself? About what?" She asked, putting the food in her mouth as she finished.
I knew exactly where she was going with all these questions. People had considered me crazy since I was 5 years old. She wanted to know, Is my daughter insane? Talking to herself like someone with Multiple Personality Disorder? I took a bite of my food and stated, "About how I need to improve on my drawings. You see, I tend to make the shoes a little too round, the arms too skinny, and the bodies too tall." I paused for a moment to take another bite of my food and continued, "Talking to myself is a way I help myself to perfect the characters I draw."
My mom continued eating and so did I, as I waited for her to fire off more questions at me. She was the bow and arrow and I was the target. At least, that's what it felt like. She surprised me, not by a question, but a statement. "You seem to be obsessed with the characters. Specifically Sonic characters." I stared at her in shock. The fact that she came out with this statement, which seemed completely absurd to me, blew my mind.
"So?" I retorted.
"So, why don't you try drawing something else for a change?" She paused, "Go outside your comfort zone." I finished what was on my plate and wiped my hands and face with my napkin.
"But, I don't wanna draw anything else, I like drawing Sonic characters. I've already made over 50 original characters."
My mom finished her meal and let out a short sigh of annoyance. "My point is, you seem like you're trying to be a kid by drawing them. You're 15 Alexandra, it's about time you learned when to grow up." She told me slowly, seeming to explain in detail.
Anger coursed through my veins, seeming to replace my blood. I stood up angrily, pushing the table back and knocking my chair over. Sonic and Poke'Cat stared at us through the window, my mother completely oblivious to their presence. "Well maybe I don't wanna grow up!" I screamed in her face, infuriated by her previous words. I stepped over the chair, not bothering to pick it up. I ran up the stairs and headed into my room. I slammed the door shut and threw myself onto my bed.
I lay there for several minutes. The room was completely silent. Suddenly I heard a tapping at my window. I looked up from my place on my bed to see Sonic suspended in mid-air surrounded by a blue aurora. "Hey Alexandra." He said, seeming calm but having a very nervous expression on his face. "U-Uh..." He began to stutter now, the nervousness on his face even more entering his words. "½Could you... uh... let me in? Please?"
With a sudden sense of urgency, I pried open my window and Sonic was pushed inside, landing on his hands and knees on my bedroom floor. I helped him to his feet as Poke'Cat flew through the open window and landed in front of my bedroom door. She grabbed the doorknob and locked it with sudden urgency. "Why don't cha soundproof it too?" I mumbled angrily under my breath. Of course, I forgot that Poke'Cat's hearing is so keen she can hear a pin drop up to a mile away.
Her rings and eyes began to glow that vibrant blue again, as did my bedroom door. I slapped my palm to my forehead in frustration. "What the hell are you doing now?"
Poke'Cat continued her work on the door, tracing the framework gently with her glowing fingertips. "Making the room soundproof like you suggested." She kept at her work and I sighed, annoyed. Damn. I thought. All those powers I gave her really payed off huh? I kind of smiled then, but my smile quickly disappeared.
I walked over my to my bed and sat down on the edge of it, placing my head in my hands and sighing. Sonic walked over after me, rubbing his hands nervously and looking around hastily at the floor. "Sonic, are you alright?" I said quietly, but he didn't answer me. He just hoisted himself on top of my dresser and sat there, still rubbing his hands together.
I looked at him, worried at his unusual lack of confidence. Poke'Cat walked over and sat beside me on the edge of my bed. "You ok?" she asked me, seeming intent on what I had to say.
"I'll be alright, but..." I tapped my head gently, trying to tell her, Use telekinesis and I'll tell you the rest.
I guess she got the message because her rings and eyes went blue and I stared at a ring located by her right ear and heard, "But what?"
I thought the feeling of telepathy would be different than it actually felt. The feeling wasn't any different from spacing out. Like when you're in a really boring class and you completely tune out everything else around you but your own thoughts? It feels just like that. "What's wrong with Sonic?" I asked by simply thinking it.
Poke'Cat giggled aloud, which made Sonic quickly look up in bewilderment at her then back down. "You see," she told me, "Sonic is worried about your reaction when you find out about it."
Suddenly I blurted out, "What's it?"
Poke'Cat let her rings fade back to their normal shade of red. "It, is the whole reason we're here."
Sonic's ears perked up as Poke'Cat said this. He looked up at Poke'Cat, then at me, then back at Poke'Cat. "Are you sure she's ready?" Sonic asked.
Poke'Cat gave a quick nod, short and to the point. "It's best to tell her now before something bad happens."
I got a bit scared at that statement. Bad? What could possibly happen that needs me to know whatever information they're about to tell me?
Sonic gave a quick, skeptical nod back at Poke'Cat and stood on top of my dresser. Hopping off of it, he came to sit beside me on the bed. It felt like we were sandwiched together. I honestly don't think we could sit any closer if we tried. "The reason we're here is because of something that happened 11 years ago Alexandra." Sonic told me quickly, seeming to want to get this over with, but his confident tone returned as he said it.
"Have you ever felt as if you don't belong? As is everything around you is a foreign object?" Poke'Cat asked me. This seemed like a completely rhetorical question, but I still answered it with all seriousness.
"That's exactly how I felt before you two showed up." I stated.
Although I was well aware that Poke'Cat could easily read my thoughts, I still couldn't help but think of just how much I resented her for being everything I wished I was. She had obviously read my mind as I thought this, because she smiled and laughed a little.
Sonic pushed himself off the bed and landed on his feet. He walked to stand in front of me with his head down. He looked up at me, his eyes full of absolute wonder. "Alexandra," He began, "You are a Hedgehog from the planet Mobius."
I stared in complete shock and disbelief at Sonic. "M-Me?!"
Poke'Cat pushed herself off the bed and asked, "Would you like to see?" I nodded ever so slightly, just barely enough so she could see my answer. "Take my hand." she said, holding her hand out to me. I looked at the contours of her palm, especially the single red ring that curved gently over the ridges of her palm. Hesitantly, I placed my hand in hers and felt a sudden rush of energy course through my body.
The energy lifted me into the air, spinning me around slowly. Light began to shoot from my limbs, surrounding me. I felt myself grow shorter, a small tail sprouted from my back, and I gained a dress. My body landed gently on the bed, and I drifted into unconsciousness.
Chapter 3: The Illness Of Transformation
When I opened my eyes, the room was filled with artificial light from the three lamps located in my room. I sat up and rubbed my head. “Ugh… What happened…?†as soon as the words escaped my lips, it all flooded back to me. I fell back on the pillow, blood pounding through my ears. I winced in pain, feeling as if someone was beating me with a brick. Sonic noticed I was awake and ran over to the side of my bed. The covers were drawn up over me, which I quickly realized was bad and broke out in a fever.
I kept my eyes shut tight, my face contorted into a wince. I heard the faint sound of a chair being dragged across the carpeted floor of my bedroom. Someone sat in the chair. I heard PokéCat’s voice from the other side of the room say, “I’m gonna go get a damp cloth.†The door unlocked as PokéCat left the room.
I felt a cool hand being placed on mine gently. I knew it must’ve been Sonic’s, because him and I were the only ones left in the room, but Sonic seemed to emit a sad sort of mumble. “Please be okay Alexandra…†He said, getting a sadder tone by the second. “We’ve traveled so far to find you… To save you… We can’t lose you now… Even if we haven't known each other for very long, I feel as though I’ve known you for years.â€
I forced myself to slowly open my eyes and turn my head towards Sonic. Though it was painful, I managed it. His ears shot up as he heard me move on the bed. He turned his head to look at me and waited for me to speak. “I-I feel the same way…†I coughed out, my body seeming to reject doing what I wanted it to. It was like I had the flu or something, though I was pretty sure I didn’t. Sonic looked back down at his hands in his lap, seeming to blush ever so slightly.
I smiled at Sonic, which quickly turned into a painful wince, causing me to shut my eyes tight again. Sonic laid the back of his cool hand on my forehead. “Oh no…†he mumbled, then shouted louder, “PokéCat!†When he shouted that loudly, I got really worried. What if my mom heard that? I guess Sonic didn’t care too much. PokéCat opened the door quickly, closing it and locking it again before coming over to me.
“She’s burning up…†Sonic said, trailing off quickly. PokéCat took the damp cloth in her hand and laid it gently across my forehead. The cooling sensation from the cloth soothed the pain that rippled through my body. I let out a small, contented sigh and opened my eyes again. I still felt weak and unable to move. I tried to sit up, which was much more painful than I expected. Sonic scrambled to help me, seeming flustered. As I nearly fell backwards, Sonic held me up and placed my pillow up so it would hold me in this position.
“You okay Alexandra?†He asked quickly, obviously wanting an answer.
“I’m ok… I promise… Thanks Sonic…†I told him slowly.
He looked me in the eyes and smiled. “Heh, no problem.†he replied.
PokéCat suddenly spoke up. “I can heal you from here.†I nodded and leaned back on the pillow. PokéCat lifted her hand and held it at me. She reminded me of Silver The Hedgehog the way she did this. The ring on her palm turned blue. I closed my eyes and I felt a rush of energy course through my body. It went through each cell of my body, repairing where it was needed and giving me strength.
I opened my my eyes to see Sonic looking at me hopefully. “I’m alright Sonic!†I exclaimed.
He smiled wide and gave me a thumbs up. “Great!â€
Both of us turned to look at PokéCat who smiled as well. She waved her hand around and made a trail of what looked like sparkles. In her hand appeared a mirror, which she held out to me. I reached out to grab it, but saw something different about my hand. My hand was gloved just like Sonic and PokéCat’s. “Wha-What?!†I shook my head and took the small, round hand mirror from PokéCat. I turned it around to stare into it’s shiny, reflective surface. What I saw was shocking.
As clear as day, in the mirror was a Hedgehog, resembling Amy Rose The Hedgehog, although, if she was blue. I wore blue shades that covered the irises of my eyes. “Wh-What happened to me?!†I screamed in shock, “Did you do this to me?!†I was panicking now, I had no clue what had happened. Was I dreaming? Or was this really happening? All I knew was, that mirror, showed me something I never thought possible. A human, was now a Hedgehog. Or so I thought.
PokéCat’s eyes and rings went that beautiful, vibrant blue once again. I suddenly felt calm, not a care in the world. “No.†She began, “You were born like this.†I looked confused, mostly because I was. I didn’t understand.
My first thought was, How in the hell was I born like this? I live on Earth, it’s not a common occurrence here! She wasn’t finished with her explanation though, and she continued.
“When you were 4 years old, you lived on Mobius. You were quite a happy young Hedgehog. Until one day, a group of scientists came to the planet.†She paused, seeming to ruminate on the moment, although, It wasn’t her memory. “The scientists chased you down and captured you. You had nowhere to run.†As the words came out of her mouth, I tried to remember this event. Although my mind wanted to remember, my heart seemed to reject the action. “They brought you to Earth, and ran tests on you. They combined you partially with the DNA of a human. No one quite knows what happened after that. All we know now is that you were locked in that human body. Now, you are no longer.â€
A scared look crossed my face and I looked at PokéCat. “Wait! So, everyone can see me as a Hedgehog now?! I don’t appear human to them?!â€
PokéCat gave an incandescent smile. “Smart girl.†She gave kind of a quick chuckle and proceeded to answer my question. “I’ve taken care of that. Due to the possible sudden shock of people seeing you as a Hedgehog, I’ve made it so all humans see you as a human.â€
Sonic hadn’t spoken in awhile. After PokéCat finished her explanation, Sonic looked up at me and said, “Alexandra.†I looked over back at him and tilted my head gently to the side in question. “Can you accept the fact that you are not truly human? That you are a Hedgehog?â€
I smiled a little then, not enough for Sonic to notice. “Oh no,†I said, “I refuse to accept it.†Sonic frowned at me, giving me a sad look. I smiled wider, smirking almost. “I’m going to embrace it.†He looked back up at me and smiled wide. PokéCat swished her tail and stared at me, seeming to wait for me to ask a question. “Why am I wearing shades though?†I asked, beginning to remove them from my face.
PokéCat frantically flung her hands up and forced them back on my face. “No, no ,no.†She scolded. For what reason, I was unaware. “You can take them off only when you can tell me what heterochromia is.â€
I turned my shades on my face, looking down at them curiously. All I could think was, What the hell could heterochromia possibly have to do with taking off my shades?
“It’s getting late. Let’s all get some rest.†PokéCat said quickly, before I could ask anymore questions. She waved her hand around and two cots appeared in the corner of my room. She went and laid on one of them.
“Goodnight Alexandra.†They both said in unision.
I closed my eyes gently, trying to comprehend all the information I had been given today. None of it seemed real. I wasn’t sure of anything at the moment. I allowed myself to slip into the void I knew as sleep, the mirror resting on my bedside table.
