well im catholic and mexican so i HAVE to believe in heaven or else ima burn in hell supposedly.

idk i think death is just nothing. you wont feel anything while your dead. your essentialy unconscious

Broly, the consciousness will be destroyed and disappear because both the conscious and subconscious state are projected by the mind. They will eventually disappear after you die, but it isn't farfetched to believe that the subconscious state remains active upon death as long as the brain is preserved.

Since the brain is the last organ to rot, you'll basically dream and eventually fade,

Well, the scientific explanation is that our brain completely shuts down, so we cannot think or exist anymore. It's just like sleeping. You can't think, but only dream. (Well you can't dream when you're dead though)

The religious explanation obviously depends on what your religion is. Some believe in reincarnation, some heaven and hell.

What we do know is, we alone have absolutely no way to find out unless we die. So humans would technically never know what happens after death.
