HanShotFirst (2013-02-15 19:32:21)You guys do realize that the temperature on the sun is consistent, and we think it cools down in the winter or at night because it isn't bringing in as much heat.
During the winter, the sun's energy has difficulty reaching places on the earth because it tilts. The reverse is the same for the summer because it tilts towards the sun instead of away from it. The sun's temperature isn't changing, what changing is the amount of the heat the earth is absorbing.
As of now, landing on the sun is impossible because the surface temperature exceeds not just the melting point, but the boiling point for most material on the earth's surface.
Your spaceship would not only turn to liquid, said liquid would boil before you even landed on the sun's surface.

HanShotFirst (2013-02-15 19:33:22)Correction, all material.

ED (2013-02-15 19:35:36)And then how many meters the sun is, you could impossibly reach that in a human life.
HanShotFirst (2013-02-15 19:44:48)ED, that's not true.
New Horizons is projected to reach Pluto by 2015, and was launched in 2006. The further away it gets from the sun, the slower it becomes. Reagrdless, 11 years is within the span of human life. The sun is not only a shorter difference, it's not going to slow down as it travels since it's moving towards the sun, not away from it.

Ron1212 (2013-02-15 22:12:04)Probably sometime after the year 2500 or even 3000. We'd have developed suits that can withstand that extremely high temperature.

HanShotFirst (2013-02-15 22:16:19)The sun might hit Red Dwarf stage by that time, making it even hotter.

HanShotFirst (2013-02-15 22:24:47)Freezing the sun would cause a cataclysm.

Ron1212 (2013-02-15 22:28:27)The sun has 5 billion years left, it won't reach the red dwarf stage in just a thousands years from now. @HanShotFirst

HanShotFirst (2013-02-15 22:32:49)True, but then again, we aren't exactly sure of that. There is many things in this universe that require further research. The sun is one of those things.

We landed a Rover on Mars, not a human. We've landed on a few planets, but only walked on the moon's surface.
