I didn't see very much progress being made with that thread. It was pointless. If you see another user swearing (look for the phrase "QUACK I'M A DUCK SomeLuigi is awesome btw" [or something along those lines, I can't remember]), then just tell a mod in the chatroom to warn them, or if there are no mods in the chatroom, PM one.
Regarding respect, that's something that really needs to be earned. We've had much too many rulebreakers on this site to immediately believe someone to be kind and respectful, and therefore worthy of respect.
Some things you can do to earn respect are using proper spelling and grammar, respecting others, and overall following the rules. You'll be able to gain respect in no time.
