From what I've read, DayZ is more about the actual SURVIVAL aspects of a Zed apocalypse. Scarce supplies, hunger, illness, etc. It's kind of like a simulator.

Left 4 Dead 2 makes more an action oriented approach. It's by no means difficult as DayZ, but you will have to co-operate with your buddies to get through in one piece. However, guns and ammo are so commonplace it's not even funny, and you never really have a sense helplessness unless you're having your ass completely swarmed.
