^ This. A dog has a brain without a working conscious. It is unable to produce fear or sadness on a human level, and upon death, the pain is the only thing on its mind. Whereas you would be putting the human through not only pain, but the fear of what will come when they close their eyes, the sadness of leaving their family and friends behind, and the pain simultaneously.
