I'm sure in a fight, Sonic could win, but as a character, Rainbow Dash is the better developed one. Sonic is hotblooded and never develops, he just repeats the same things, in the show and the games(in the manga Sonic Universe, however, he develops and actually does it well) about being fast, and it gets repetitive after a while.

Rainbow Dash actually develops, show and the comics, and you can relate to her at times. Also throughout the show, she has developed very well, as well as the comics.
