Leviathan (2016-02-17 06:27:47)^Unity is by no means a game maker. It's just an IDE and library along with some sweet debugging. I've been learning for a month and you pretty much need to know C# in order to use it.
I'm an open book, there are few questions I won't answer honestly, no matter how embarrassing.
Bean (2016-02-17 08:40:47)I personally use GameMaker: Studio.
While it does use drag and drop, there's enough scripting involved to make it somewhat difficult.
It was used to make Shut Up and Jam Gaiden, Hotline Miami, Undertale, Rivals of Aether and some others I can't think of right now.
There is a free version but it's missing a few things.

Leviathan (2016-02-17 08:57:15)Undertale? Huh. Guess he got lucky and made money off of a game maker game.
People in the game development community rank Game Maker Studio and Construct in the same league as RPG maker. Imagine if you saw an RPG maker game that got as successful as undertale.

ScootsRiver (2016-02-17 09:10:26)Uhh, why would a gamemaker game lose merit just because it's a gamemaker game?
carlos12 (2016-02-17 11:40:58)So? you need to know what people will like if you want a good game, and toby fox succeded in that.

Bean (2016-02-17 12:23:45)GameMaker is by no means top league but it can do more than RPG Maker, which while limited to a single genre in a 90s style is not a bad program.
It's perfect for people without much talent to create 2D games.

Leviathan (2016-02-17 13:23:22)I never said Unity isn't game development software. Just that it's not the easy shortcut people seem to think it is. It's by no means one of the engines you can learn in a weekend after a date. It's a professional platform.
I saw a guy ridiculing somebody on steam for releasing three games that had the unity watermark. Not because of the watermark, but because it was made with unity. As if unity is a game maker and doesn't require you to know a borderline C language to be able to do anything/

Boo (2016-02-17 14:41:25)A (slightly?) good game design WEBSITE is Sploder. It's made for kids and has a fun physics maker where you can make games and challenges and stuff. It can even let you make your own graphics. I used to play it all the time as a kid. I had my own little custom intro and everything.
Man, I need to get back into it again. My user is 3DMarioluigi but it's been like, three years. It's mediocre and probably not what you're looking for, but it's fun for a fun waste(?) of time.
oof
Leviathan (2016-02-17 19:36:26)You mentioned "Either Unity or programming it yourself". Which implies you aren't programming unity games yourself.

Perfect_Chaos (2016-02-17 22:00:47)I thought Undertale used a custom engine.
Sploder is as much of a game maker as scratch. It's soooooo easy and limited, you can do more on scratch than that.
ScootsRiver (2016-02-17 22:29:08)"Because Gamemaker requires no talent whatsoever."
Because easy to use = requires no talent.
...k
Leviathan (2016-02-17 22:38:22)"Because easy to use = requires no talent"
No, because literally anybody being able to sit down and make something eliminates the requirement for talent. It's like if facebook was made with wapka. Game maker requires no talent. You can be fresh out of the womb and know how to use game maker in three days tops. Whereas things like Unity require skill and development experience. Not just clickedy-click this thingy and bam theres meh gaem.

Perfect_Chaos (2016-02-17 22:39:06)Well yeah, if it's easy to use then it requires no talent.

I can already hear the question "What about Sonic 1 IOS Demake?" well.. I lost the files due to being impatient and for good reason... ladies and gentlemen meet the Asus 2-in-1 tablet laptop!

I got this because my old PC (a toshiba satellite that had 3 OS's on it being 8,8.1(ew.),and 10 but it's keyboard was breaking down and it was just overall in bad shape I knew it was running on thin time so I opted to get a new PC and try and transfer the files I wanted but it would take a while in my excitement for my asus 2-in-1 I canceled the file transfer and in the process stupidly lost the project files and I'll be honest I don't want to continue the project mainly because I tried to fix the issue with the spindash but it wouldn't cooperate with me and as time went on I further distanced myself from the project as a result. I tried multiple projects that failed for one reason or another...
Sonic 2 Remastered/Revelations~ Lazyness and a very glitchy product
Sonic 3 Aftermath~ Lack of Originality (No original or at least edited graphics no mechanics and I feel I didn't plan ahead of time) in one word: RUSHED.
Sonic 1 IOS Demake~Files Lost
But I'm not one to give up easily... I noticed I wasn't planning ahead that could be a big part of it but I remembered something I've been meaning to get out there since I was in jr high! JR FREAKING HIGH. That was a story about a very serious time in my life expressed by my O.C. and multiple characters representing something of my life... and originally I was thinking of making it an animation but as I thought about it I figured it might make a good idea for a game.
I still think it has that potential only one problem is in the software I use to design the game with originally I used to use Multimedia Fusion in combination with a 2D Sonic engine called Sonic Worlds which played more or less like Sonic 1,2,3&K,and CD  on the Sega Genesis and Sega cd respectively only problem with that setup is well... I like to play fangames and one day I found one by the name of "Before the Sequel" and you know what happened it got a sequel and that game got one and there was one in-between. Multimedia Fusion is a terrible program so broken it's hanging by tape pieces.
First off it's got TONS of files,my pc is good but it's not a darn dinosaur I use my pc for other purposes besides game development mainly youtube and playing games I need something that uses little space but has loads of functionality Secondly when I downloaded Multimedia Fusion it was not the real version and I figured I should buy it instead of pirating it (YAR SHIVER ME TIMBERS!) but when I searched up the program on amazon it was nearly $200! excuse me $200? I don't think so. Third was the method of installation I was worried they used disks which my pc at the time didn't support. (the satellite) so $200 for a worthless disk? gee, thanks I want my refund now. Finally it messed with Sonic Before the Sequel After the Sequel, and Before the Sequel Aftermath causing each to crash I had no Idea why then but now I think I've got an idea Multimedia Fusion possibly gives a program called stdrt.exe which in some way messed with the game but only when cutscenes were being loaded/or the cutscenes were disabled meaning in some way stdrt.exe messed with the games cutscenes and the game noticed this and naturally tried to correct the issue crashing in the process to correct the issue but stdrt.exe repeated the process meaning those games kept trying to fix an issue that couldn't be fixed unless stdrt.exe was deleted. so I need the following:
1.A program that's very small,easy to use,and is free/cheap but isn't "cheap" quality wise
2.Installation that is both Digital and CD
3.Doesn't mess with my games.
4. No hand-holding (Professional style game development software)
Any suggestions? If so please leave them below!
I'll keep planing...
