Neither of them are simply fashion trends. The gothic subculture enjoys the darker things in life, therefore they're going to dress darkly because they like it...not because it looks "better" or "cool".

Same goes for girly, I would assume. You like girly things, you wear girly things.
If you're dressing specifically to fit into a particular sub-group, you're being a "poser"....Just dress how you like, and pick a fashion that best identifies yourself. And I'm not saying you can't dress gothic if you like the style; but please don't identify as "goth" if you don't identify with the sub-culture as well...same goes for other sub-groups.

No fashion is better than another...just wear the things you like. Have your own fashion to match your own personality.

I don't really care what I wear, so long as it's comfortable, not ratty, and isn't revealing.

Lol I don't think it matters? I'm more girly, though, and I'm not really into the goth style. And I think those terms are just really general labels.
