(part one)

Stripetail walked alone. His ribcage was clearly visible through his mangled pelt. He was a living skeleton, and with every step he took, he wondered to himself...do I die this time? No? This time? No?! When do I die, then, when?! and he stops.

His head is obscured by shadows, the moon looking upon him with shame. "Youv'e lost everything again..." it called to him.
"yes, I have... " he answered.
"Then why dont you return o Nightclan?"
A single, silver tear scraped across stripepelts face and landing on the cracked concrete with a small plop. He griitted his teeth.
"You know as well as I do why I cant go back..." Stripepelt said, to no one in particular.
"You know well WHY!" he yoweled, his frustration and anger set free to roam wild into the night.

"yes, back in NightClan, Windpaw, my daughter, awaits me..." Stripepelt said, now resting on an old, torn-up mattress.
"She was so strong...so much...like her mother..." another tear...hot and wet and silver, slipped from his amber eyes.
"I-I'll bet, that she's a warrior now...like her father...like her father, the fallen deputy...who ran away from it all because of an accident on the thunderpath..."
Stripepelt stopped grieving...he sensed something. A mouse? Rumaging through the garbage? *good luck,* stripepelt thought to himself. *I've tried that already...* but then, he got an idea. He would catch a mouse...and he wouldn't be so hungry, and he would be reminded of when Featherfoot was alive and sharing fresh kill with him and thier beautiful daughter windkit. Soon enough, she became windpaw, but just days later, Featherfoot had had an accident on the thunderpath...that would lead to grief, regret, and pain-more than once.

(part two)

Stripepelt lay down his head...full of thoughts of Broken hearts and broken spirits, and began to dream.
They were not good dreams, just painful and sad-memories of lost love and broken hearts, of a long journey, still uncompleted, to find What he had always wanted...someone to love.

(dream) "Windkit! Windkit? Where are you?" Stripepelt called out, his tail flicking in frustration, "Windkit, if you keep this up, you'll never be mature enough to be an aprentice!"
Windkit popped her head out of a bramble bush near the entrance of camp, "Your just sad that I'm becoming an apprentice tommorow and you cant keep me locked up in the nursery anymore!" she called out. "I'll be windPAW tomorow, and then you cant stop me from exploring!" she said, scrambling to get out of the bushes and running over to stripepelt, tripping over her own paws.

Stripepelt stifled a purr, he had to be stern with her now, even if she was the cuttest kitten in all of NightClan. "come on, your mom went out today and caught you a mouse!" said stripepelt, hopeing to excite the kit. "Oh, yum! " windkit dashes for the nursery, "Featherfoot always catches the juiciest!"
Stripepelt followed, no longer hiding the growing purr in his throat. This was his daughter, this was the one he loved.

"and so, until you earn your warrior name, you shall be known as an apprentice by the name, windpaw!" Finishd Blazestar. The cats in the Clan let out a chourus of mews, "Windpaw! Windpaw!" but Featherfoot's and Stripepelt's rang out the loudest. Stripepelt felt an overwelming sense of pride, on of happiness. He knew that no matter what, he could always look back on this moment for happiness.

Three days later. he couldn't have been more wrong. Only three days...just three days after windpaw's ceremony, his beloved mate, featherfoot, had tried to cross the thunderpath, and she had failed, an overlysized monster with screaming horns and wind that treatened to suck the rest of the patrol away hit her square on.

there wasn't even anything worth burying.

and thats when Stripepelt left. After he saw what remained of his mate, a tuff of Silver and golden fur and a bloody mass that might have been her tail.

Her beautiful, golden, silver-speckled tail.
And her kitten,
Their kitten,
seeing what remained,
before stripepelt could stop her
and cover her eyes,
she saw.

And she understood,

Featherfoot was gone. Forever.

and so he left the clan.

(part 3)

Stripepelt could not rest. Because his memories of that day, the shadows of night could not envelope him in sleep, he was too distracted. He stood, deciding that this was enough.

Stripepelt exited the make-shift den, sniffing the air for prey. But his throught was dry.

He headed for a nearby stream, hoping to cool his aching heart, but knowing deep down inside it wasnt possible.

As stripepelt reached the stream, he leaned down to peer into the still water.

He saw his reflection.

He saw the tearstains.

He saw his daughter.

Stripepelt stood and abrutly left, suddenly a lot less thirsty than before.

Who was that cat he saw? Was it really him? Was that really what he had become?

Later, back at the makeshift den, Stripepelt began to pray to Starclan, even though he had long lost faith in them. He had nothing else to do.

"Starclan...hear me...please here me," he started, pausing to blaink away tears.

"I'm sorry. I...I dont know what I did to deserve live like this...in this way. Featherfoot, if your up there, h-hear me out. Give me a sign that your watching over our daughter, " he pauses as a slight rain begins to fall, "Please. I need to know shes safe," there is thunder, and the rain begins to penetrate the den. "Please, Featherfoot! Starclan, give me a sign!" When suddenly, a sharp wind battered the den, tearing away at the fabric.

Stripepelt went flying, scrambling to grab on to anything he could as the fiercce winds tore through his body, but failed and was sent upward.

Up and up he went, and he felt something between excitement and fear.

Stripepelt looked up to his destination, a large, swirling, black mass of clouds in the sky. and in that swirl, he saw the faces of the cats he'd left behind...Windkit, Blazestar, Sandpaw, Bluepaw, Nettlefoot, Moonshadow, Whitepaw...all cats he left behind because of his selfishness.

Stripepelt was sent hurling towards the ground. He tried to twist and land on his paws, but failed, reluting in a crack so loud that even the twister seemed to hear.

Stripepelt grimaced and limped away the best he could, Wind kicking up grit in his eyes, and finally found shelter in a giant, rotted tree root.

He would stay here for the night.

(Part four)

Stripepelt woke with a jolt.
it was dark and quiet outside...and something didnt sit right in his stomach...something was wrong...

He left his safe hole beneath the root and began to wander back to the stream he saw earlier.

The water was freezing, but no matter, Stripepelt went in anyway.

The water was still, not flowing like he'd hoped, and he had to fight his way to the actuall rushing river it conected to.

No matter, he thought to himself, It will only make things easier...

By the time Stripepelt reached the raving river, he was exausted, his paws felt like lead and his stomach was gnawing away at this insides.

Oh well, its almost over anyways...

And then Stripepelt felt himself fall.

He didn't really wake up enough to realize the impact of his decision until the cold water came rushing at his face, up his nose and through his mouth, and then he realized what this meant... Oh starclan, am I commiting suicide?!?!

Stripepelt stood up abrutly, forcing himself to swim even on his tired, waterlogged paws.

he swam against the current, fearing where it would take him if he went with it.

Stripelt eventually gave up, noticing that swimming against the current was only makeing it worse.

He was going to drown. He knew it.

This was the end.

He closed his eyes,

and let the water

wash over him...

But then there was a meow, a faint, light, meow, desperate and sad, and stripepelt was resurfaced.

The sound made him think of Windkit, the strong, brave little girl he'd left behind, and he began to kick. He heard the cuond again, and kicked harder.

finally, finally, he reached the shore, and ther, in front if him, wasa a small, mewling, air-suckling silver kit.

And he began to cry.

Stripepelt glared down at the silver kit. It lay there, helplessly, suckling the air and sending out pitiful mews of sadness.

Stripepelt's tears of hatred rolled down his checks, dropping into the sand near the kits tail.

Stripepelt lifted a paw, then gently placed it on the kits chest. The kit instantly stopped squirming, sniffing the newcomer intently and meowing in unhappiness.

"Quiet, little kit..." said stripepelt. "This time, I don't have to bring life here," he continued, pressing harder down on the kitten.

Noticing the danger, the kit begins crying out for it's mother, but stripepelt knew no-one was coming.

Stripepelt unsheathed his claws on his free front paw, balancing his Wight on both his hind legs and the silver kit at his mercy.

Smiling, stripepelt brought down a single claw, curved and ready, and sliced a cut on the kits face.

It wasn't large, and it wasnt deep, but it was his, and only he dare do something like this. The kits cry was earsplitting, such a young body being tormented like this, all it could do was cry out. Stripepelt didn't' like it's limited power.

Stripepelt sliced another cut down the kits side and reached inside with a claw. He sort of, just, dug around until he came onto something that hooked onto his claw.

He ripped.

Something inside of stripepelt awoke as the intestines of the kit spilled out onto the ground, coated with dirt and sand, blood pooling out around the tormented body.

The kit was losing strength, pain flared in his side, and he cried out feebly, the blood pouring out of him as the breath was squeezed from his lungs. Stripepelt watched with a curious grin painted on his face.

Stripepelt released the kit soon after. He thought of a way to kill it while getting the most pain out of it as ever.....so he gathered up some death berries and rolled them under his paw before, squish, they popped. Which gave him an idea.

He looked over at the kit. Alive, but nearly there. All he needed was a grand goodbye... ... ...stripepelt waltzed over to the kit, placing a paw on it's head.

All the kit could manage now was a weak cry in protest. Stripepelt bent down, not wanting the fun to end, and chewed the kits ear until it came off, bloodied, in his mouth. He spat it out as the kit tried to wriggle free, but it lacked the strength and mobility.

Stripepelt started rolling the kits head, the juice from the squished berries sting the bloody stump of the kit that used to be his ear.

Now, the kit was ready to die. It couldn't be more ready for death. At least, thats what stripepelt told himself. Then, he put both paws on top of the kits head and pushed with all his might, causing the weak skull to crack, and kit brain to coast the bloody ground.

Kit blood stained stripepelts paws, and he instantly thought, when...when can I do this again?!

He stepped off of the bloody mess, not bothering to wipe his paws. He sat there for a second, pondering about what he was to do now,

Suddenly, footsteps were heard, and stripepelt melted into the shadows to hideamong the ferns.

A cat, fur outlined in stars, stepped out, sniffing the carcass and shaking it's head dissaprovingly.

This soul cannot be saved...it was ravaged by another... said the cat.

Stripepelt silver, simply sniffed, waiting for the cat to shimmer away like mist before calmly licking the blood off his paws. Mind you, he DID check to see if there was any poisen left. There wasn't.

Stripepelt continued licking the blood, and enjoying it, too.

Then, an Idea struck him...he wanted nothing more in the world than to do that again...but...what if he used a...larger cat? Would it last him longer?

And then another brilliant idea entered his brain...what if he could find a way for windpaw to be with Fatherhood forever? And he as well?! All there thoughts rushed through his head as he licked the kitten blood from his paws, and it was then he realized that kitten blood stains fur...

Part 6

Stripepelt walked among the shadows, avoiding the dusk patrol as they left. his plan was simple...get to the camp, get the Windfeather out. Then they would have some fun...he chuckled lowly, thoughts of kitten blood flowing through his paws making him smile. His fangs glinted in the monlight as he made his way, using the brambles and ignoring the tugs at his fur. He soon arrived at the camp.

Getting inside was about as easy as getting kits to bed. there were guards and cats still in the clearing. "Mousedung..." he cursed, inching closer to the curve in the rock that housed the clan. He spotted Whitepaw, teasing Sandpaw and chashing him around the clearing. Crowpaw joined in, and soon so did windpaw.

His heart ached at the sight of the kits playing together like in the old days, and he stopped, almost reconsidering...before the dark thoughts reentered his brain and he was off.

It seemed liked moons before all the cats were in bed. What suprised him was that Windpaw, Whitepaw, and Sandpaw all walked toward the warrior den...and Crowpaw went to the medicene den!

He was distracted by this fact for only a second before he olunged into the camp. Silently, he kept to the shadows and appeared in front of the warrior den. It was time.

* * * * *

Windfeather layed down, but couldnt get comfortable...why? She could never get to sleep in this new den. maybe it was because Stripepelt was gone. She loved her father, but after the accident with Featherfoot...she couldnt remain loyal to him after he abandoned the clan.

"Whitestream," she asked.

"Yeah...?" answered Whitestream, still groggy.

"I'm going out for a walk..."

"Is it Stripepelt? You cant stop thinking about him, can you?"

Windfeather sighed. "yeah...I guess..."

"Well, I'll be here if you need me." Whitestream concluded, laying back down and wrapping her tail around her paws.

Windfeather stood, and left the den.

* * * * *

Stripepelt jumped back as Windpaw exited the den. He saw her leave the camp and nod to the guards placed out front. they looked pretty sleepy...all he needed to do was wait. Finnaly, one of them, he recognized as Voleclaw, left to make dirt. And only Yellowheart remained. He smiled cruelly and went to work.

* * * * *

Windfether pulled her face out of the water. It was dark and the moon was out, and to be honest, she was creeped out. It was only when she heard behind her a familaiar voice she turned. It said,

"Windpaw, my dearest..."
Ilurv (2013-03-28 03:15:50)
(part 7)

Windfeather gasped when she turned and saw her father, he wasnt supposed to be here! Why was he? Was he going to apologize? Was he going to ask forgivness from Nightstar?

"D-dad," she stuttered, "What are y-you doing here? You cant be here, if the dusk patrol finds us, you'll be ripped to shreds!"

"My dear Windpaw...do you know how much I've missed you...?" Stripepelt asked.

Windfeather flinched. This was not Stripepelt...it couldnt be...he didn't sound...right. Stripepelt's voice was kind and forgiving, so loving all the time. This cat had the voice of a cat who had been through hardships...too many to name...and that was not Stripepelt...surely they had been through the same losses? They both lost Featherfoot that day.

"Dad, it's Windfeather now. I'm a warrior." she said. After all, he DID look like Stripepelt, except for the low laying ears.

"So, I missed your warrior ceremony, eh? Well, its ok...Featherfoot will describe it to me when were together again..." he replied. He took a step forward into the moonlight.

Windfeather gasped yet again and scrambled backward, her tail dipping into the icy water. Stripepelt was covered in blood! His eyes glinted in the moonlight with an insane slant, and his mouth was bent in a smile, revealing fangs that glistened from the dark red blood.

"We will all be together soon...yes, I just wanted to try something with my...mt little girl...I want to show you something, but you have to lay still, ok? Just like that kit did, you must remain helpless or it wont work...it didnt work for Voleclaw...it almost worked for Yellowheart." Stripepelt continued, his mouth still curved into that unnatural smile throughout his words.

Windfeather's heart began to beat faster...what was he talking about? "D-dad..."

"Dont call me that!" Stripepelts odd tone turned menacing. "You must mew like the kit, cry for mercy like the kit, or it wont WORK!!!" he screeched, clawing at the ground and leaving deep red gouges in the earth.

"Now," he continued, "Shall we get started?"

Windfeather didn't even have time to wonder what he meant before Stripepelt leapt, smashing into Windfeather and pushing her under the surface.

* * * * *

"Whitestream," a familiar voice called out. "get up, I think somethings wrong..."

Whitestream recognized Sandpelts voice.

"Wha...?" she asked. After Windfeather had left for some space, she had fallen back to sleep. "Is it windfeather?" she asked, scrambling to sit up.

"No...I just need...I need to talk to you..." said Sandpelt. "I know you want to be deputy, but...well, this would be better if you went on a walk with me..." Sandpelt invited.

Whitestream sat up, "Ok, sure." she yawned and then followed him out of camp into the damp, quiet forest.

"So...how do I put this...Whitestream, I've been getting funny feelings lately...like, I dont know what I'm going to do, like my future would be pointless without...without something I'm missing. Something big in life...and I only get that feeling around you. I dont know...maybe this is just normal...but it started about five moons into my apprenticeship...every time I saw you, I felt like spilling my lunch...but in a good way, like I'm looking at something so--"sandpelt was cut off be a scream, loud, peircing, and heartbreakingly familiar.

"Yellowheart!" Whitestream screamed, "Go back to camp, Sandpelt, I've got to find Windfeather!" and with that, the two cats bounded off in opposite directions, Sandpelts words burning on his tounge, unspoken.

* * * * *

by the time Sandpelt made it back to camp, there had been two screams. He found, in horror, it was Yellowheart and Voleclaw....dead.

He realized that they were guards a second to late, and yowled out, "PROTECT THE KITS!!! INTRUDER IN NIGHTCLAN!!!"

He dashed to the Nursery to check on Russetkit, Robinkit and Shortkit. They would be apprentices soon, they couldnt lose them!

* * * * *

Windfeather's lungs burned, her head began to hurt and her eyes were clouded by water. This was the end. Finnaly, time to rest, to close her eyes and join Featherfoot forever...but not yet.

Stripepelt ripped her out of the frigid water and smacked her head down. She was dizzy and disoriented, and couldnt move. The last thing she saw before she shut her eyes tight was her fathers claws, raised above her, ready to rip into her flesh.

She couldnt watch.

She lay there.

And she waited for death.
