If there were a Science Contest for the Logical of the Fittest, and you were to choose 5 people to be in your group, who would it be?
HanShotFirst (2013-03-21 09:42:48)
Carl Sagan
Stephen Hawking

Why me?

I only watch MinutePhysics and vSauce.

I'm not some awesome scientist with an amazing brain or something
HanShotFirst (2013-03-21 10:20:53)
The average intelligence of the Plaza populace left me with few other options.

I know.

What if everything is a lie?

What if we're just illusions? What if we don't actually exist?

That's how the scientific method works. When we come up with a thoery, we test every possible way we can imagine in an attempt to prove it wrong. After years of testing, research, ect ect, the one who comes up with the thoery then shares it with everyone else when they cannot find a way to prove it wrong.

Other scientists then use the original's tests to try to get the same results, then perform tests of their own in an attempt to prove the thoery wrong. After countless minds have attempted it and failed to come up with a way to make the theory invalid, then we accept the thoery as well validated. Said thoeries never are treated as fact, but merely how far our understanding reaches.

In other words Doreee, Scientific theory is merely a reflection of how well we understand something, which is prone to changing when someone manages to build on it and take it forward to the next step.

Our understanding is truly limited when compared to the magnitude of the universe as a whole, but that ultimately pales in comparasion to the value of humanity. Because we are so miniscule on the cosmic scale, humanity, and life itself, it ultimately a worthless dot that has no real impact on the balance of things.

I had a lucid dream last night, and I noticed something.

In dreams, you can't feel anything.

If life was an illusion, why do we have senses?

(stupid theory, I know)
SPCOxion (2013-03-21 11:03:39)
I hope I'm not the only one confused...

I think you're trying to say that if a theory is proved wrong, it will then affect our understanding of other branches of science that may be affected, which would, upon correction, lead to another change in other subjects, and if the thoery that caused all these changes is proved wrong, then what happens?
