It's cyberpunk, psychological, and sort of horror. It's highly regarded as philosophy too. The plot itself is nothing too special. It deals with information, communication, and a bit of religion and the human consciousness. It has 13 episodes and a dub. It's a bit slow to start because the first five episodes establish the foundation but the rest are absolutely fantastic.

It was made in 1998, but the art style is glorious.

It's my absolute favorite anime. Corban, Kishy, and my Mexican friend all thought it was amazing too.

You have to think while you watch it. I don't know if you do that already, but you certainly have to with Serial Experiments Lain.

What information is there to base that off?

The dub for Serial Experiments Lain is years old. Kissanime just didn't have it until January.
