Come back when you want to talk about carrying capacity, the Gaia Hypothesis, and resource use per capita. It's not the population, but the way in which the population uses resources. Or at least if you can factor it in without emphasizing information pertaining to something else entirely. Btw prisons have heat, water, and sewage receptacles.
Heat supplied by burning fuel. Water supplied from, the local wells (water consumption being a huge issue in the US). Sewage treatment and storage, don't even get me STARTED on that.

^I edited about the resource part in prisons.

The biggest threat to the environment is resource consumption and population per the resources in any given area. Every issue stems from that. Long showers? Water is a resource, and possibly the one in the most jeopardy.
