Do you know what that means? In this case it isn't really relevant. Hits are just things that play on the radio. The aforementioned Devo album is one of the best albums of '78 and is listed on the p4k and RS top lists. (Not to say that those websites matter much but it kind of shows that they aren't a one hit wonder band)
Also, that album doesn't have the song you're thinking of on it.
You seem to not have an avid knowledge of music that you don't prefer so you jump to conclusions. Devo is most definitely not a one hit wonder band in the music world.

Yeah obviously, I don't know much about Devo. I have a one hit wonder piano sheet music themed book, and Devo is on it... (yes it's Whip It). I've never even heard any other song from them ever.

I know someone's gonna get on my ass for saying this but a lot of the time if a band has only one recognized song by the general public there's probably a decent reason for it. And I'm not saying it's bad to like a sucky/generally unliked band; it doesn't matter. I'm not afraid to admit The Neighbourhood only has 2 hit songs ever on the radio (and another single made for a Spiderman movie) out of all their albums and mixtapes (the latest album didn't even have a hit single) but they're my second favorite band.

Whether or not you actually like an artist who is constantly on the radio, there is a good reason they are on it in the first place: most find their music good. I don't like Selena Gomez or Ariana Grande and those type of singers but they are probably very good artists. Or we can argue about an overplayed Smells Like Teen Spirit. Yeah, IMO, definitely far from Nirvana's best song. But the reason it's so overplayed is because the general public finds it really really good. All in all the radio generally determines how good a band or artist's music is. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's bad. Just because an artist you do like that's not on the radio doesn't make them really good.

And as I said before someone is probably going to argue with me about everything I said, but talk to the public about their musical tastes.

I listen to Lorde, Lana Del Ray, Marina and the Diamonds and Halsey already. I'm not sure how I feel about Grimes, her voice is kind of annoying. I doubt you were going to recommend them to me but just in case.

Do you guys know what Payola is? It started in the 60s, I don't expect you to. People like to pretend it isn't happening.

Music is similar to movies. Popular music is made to appeal to the highest denomination of people, therefore it's often formulaic and produced solely for the sake of raking in money for a record company. That means no experimental music that sometimes shapes the industry in the future (examples: post punk and new wave -> pop punk, jazz and many other genres -> prog rock) because:
1. Change triggers the public
2. Some artists are too poor to pay for radio playtime in Canada like everyone else does (read up on payola and how even after it became illegal it just continued )
3. Less money is made with experimental music just as less money is made with independent films because less publicity
Objectively a lot of music on the radio is bad, you just can't tell. One trend that I've noticed as of 2016 is bad lethargic imitations of dance hall music. It's a Jamaican genre that got its roots from reggae. The reason why this is becoming a trend is because of Justin Bieber's success with I'm Sorry. It's very easy to pump out similar songs just to make money, and subsequently crappier attempts everytime. Also, Selena Gomez is known for having really badly produced songs, lyrics, and vocals. There are talented artist on the radio, you kinda picked a bad example tbh even Taylor Swift is better than her, ignoring the few songs she had that were absolute disasters coughbadbloodcough

Marina used to be such a qt but now she looks 65, I don't know what drugs she's been on and what she's been doing but holy .

Meia you'd probably like St. Vincent. If you like Talking Heads too you're outta luck though because her collaboration with David Byrne is pretty mediocre and disappointing.
