If you want to look at this scenario from an evolutionary perspective, people wouldn't kill themselves if they started to wonder what the point was. Instead, they would find another reason to be alive that isn't religion. They could believe there is no god, but reincarnation exists and maybe even karma and/or ascension.
People can still believe in different kinds of afterlife without god. But if they didn't come to any conclusions about their meaning in life that had anything to do with what happened after they died, they would come up with at least something. Humans are creatures with a strong will to live. This is the reason people in concentration camp gas chambers were found dead in piles, the reason people on sinking ships would climb higher and higher, and hold their breath as long as they could even though they ended up hundreds of feet underwater, part of the reason people were brave enough to jump out of the twin towers to escape flames, the reason people scream while being gunned down, etc. No humans ever chose death. Death choses a human.
PANZERFAUST (2016-06-17 23:48:39)We would have morals, even without religion. Other animals, such as crows, apes, etc. have their own moral code, yet do not practice a religion, so I don't see why it should be any different for humans. If anything it would be beneficial to not have religion, as many wars are started by differences in beliefs.
I miss you
PANZERFAUST (2016-06-18 00:16:53)^ That's my point. If an animal [arguably] less intelligent than us can still have a working code of ethics/morals without religion, we should be able to do so as well.
I miss you
Nemesis (2016-06-18 00:22:42)Oh my god
Also good point @Panzer

PANZERFAUST (2016-06-18 01:05:00)^ I never said it hasn't. That's not what this thread was about. You can stop taking offense to personal opinions and stop defending things that were never attacked.
I miss you
Without religion, the wars and killing would still happen, but just for different reasons. In fact, it might have even been worse without religion. Imagine if people believed that what gave their lives meaning was something materialistic? Land, for example. People would be killing each other over land way more often, because it'd be considered the most important thing of their lives.
What if people thought that justice and righteous killing was the meaning of life? People would be looking for excuses to fight and murder each other. Those murders, of course would be used as an excuse by some other guys to cut murder (avenging their buddy), and so on. It would be a chain reaction of people killing each other in the name of "justice".
I really am having too much fun thinking about these scenarios.
@Panzer There was no indication that Spencer took any offense.

I would be with some busty space babes if God didn't exist.
