He's actually the evil villain in the arcade game story.

It turns out that he's the enemy all along, but in a different universe. The lady everybody ships him with is actually his daughter. His quest is to rescue her.
Then he kills his evil self and takes care of his baby, which is the lady he's trying to rescue, who is his daughter, who is a baby named Anna. The end.
