I think the new eevee evolution might be a steel type.

No.

The only possible options are Dragon, Bug, Flying, and Normal.

It looks like a normal type, and it's name, Ninfia, gives a clue as to how it got it's origin. 'Ninon' is a type of fabric that originated in Western Europe. Due to Gen VI being based on parts of Europe, this seems likely, also due to Ninfia having those ribbons and that bow-tie, this theory is good.

Bug Typing and Flying typing can be derived from an alternative interpretation of Ninfia's origin, "Nymph". A nymph can be either a Fae, which is a mythical creature. Think Tinkerbell. There are various types of Fae, such as water based, land based, and sky based. It's kind of a stretch, but you can sort of picture what Ninfeon looks like flying, which is rather majestic and mystical (AKA, Fae-like).

A Nymph is also the name given to insects in the intermediate stage. Some insects go through an incomplete metamorphosis (3 stages as opposed to 4). Ninfia also happens to have Bug-like eyes, and a bow that looks like a butterfly.

The last is dragon. The reasoning for this is how Eastern dragons look (Thin, majestic, ribbons), therefore not really matching up with western, but eastern Dragons. Most Dragons are western based anyway, with the exception of Gyarados.

How could it be steel?

The pokemon company has stated that the existing types already used are not being used so you can cross normal type out and the name has been translated to Sylveon in English by the Pokemon company.

Following that, that really leaves only Flying. It hasn't been used in an Eeveelution yet, and Sylveon seems to draw from "Sylph", which is the same thing as a mythical Nymph, except Sylphs are associated with wind.

The scarfs can be from "R@pe of the Lock", in which the Sylphs in the story safeguard a woman's beauty because they are creatures of Vanity.

My first guess was flying.

Yeah, it was mine too.

Looking at it from this standpoint, Unless they make a new "Mythic" type, that means we are looking at our second Pure Flying Pokemon ever.

I wonder if they'll introduce a ground type.

Maybe. But I'm guessing Dragon is the likely companion, since they've done every original Special type but Dragon. The game being set in europe, that's even more likely.

SwaggyP (2013-02-16 17:03:22)
Yeah it would be cool to have a dragon type but I guessed they would make a ground type because of the differences of Umbreon and Espeon

A ground type sound good in fact, but what would it be called?
