PANZERFAUST (2015-09-30 00:44:09)"Deserves"... Happiness is something one gets when they feel they've accomplished something. It's a reward for your own actions. It's one more thing evolution has given us so we can continue the cycle.
I miss you

Now these kiddies are trying to be all philosophical. That's cute.
Let's not get off topic, people. Lani never asked what happiness was. (If you really want to know, it's another reaction that the human body has to things that it likes as an evolutionary trait) Lani is asking whether or not we DESERVE it. What happiness is, is completely irrelevant. Just because our bodies are supposed to feel happiness does not mean we necessarily deserve it.

It's way simpler than defining the emotion or the feeling of happiness.
When something terrible happens in a person's life, they'll often whine "I don't deserve this" or they'll be comforted with "You deserve better"...you deserve to be happy, you deserve to have things go your way...but why? Is this even true? Perhaps they don't deserve happiness and instead deserve bad things. What makes someone deserve happiness in the first place?
I know I didn't really word the original question this way...when someone says they "deserve to be happy", it's typically in relation with being generally content and pleased with their life (work, relationships, day to day activities, etc.) so I assumed that connection is automatically made. All answers to the question, whether directed towards the emotion or just generally, are equally as interesting, though.
^ Oh, yeah...and happiness clearly does exist. I'm not sure what depths of emo you have go get to in order to never experience a long period of joy and contentment...whether it's in the future, past, or present, we'll all will (or have) experienced happiness, as a whole. Typically, when we are happy, we never acknowledge it...so it seems to pass us by too quickly. "Never knew you were happy until you get depressed"
I'm not sure what Boo's definition of happiness is, however...if he/she means that ecstatic bubbly feeling of overwhelming joy we get sometimes, then certainly that only comes in drops at a time.
Deer don't exist. They just show up in my yard sometimes
Crush42 (2015-10-01 16:10:19)To answer the question, no. We, as human beings, should work and strive to achieve happiness, but never, EVER, do we deserve something without earning it. That being said, if you aren't fortunate enough to be able to show that you could work to earn (like young children, etc.), that's another story, but even in that instance, they should be helped on to the right path. This philosophy not being met is the reason that Justin Bieber has become a household name (among others), and one of the reasons America has such a failure of leadership.

Happiness as a whole does not exist. There is ojpy drops of it at a time.
