I need suggestions. For the most part, I'm having difficulty finding an anime I can stomach, since my tolerance for a lot of the generic crap has started to fade.

Also, what is with this SAO craze? It's still a bad anime adaption of a mid-tier LN.

Speaking of LNs, anyone see Kaze no Stigma, or was that just me?

The themes centered around religion.


It follows a teenage boy name Light Yagami. When finding a mysterious black notebook called the death note, and discovering it's authenticity, the boy sets out on a quest with a God of death named Ryuuk to kill the criminals of the world, and create an ideal place for those who are good. Using his intellect, he cleverly evades the police, and the worlds greatest detective, "L".


The views of light are profound and changing. He wishes to change our now boring world.


P.S. You should stop trying to deny that the Anime is profound, if you haven't watched it. You have thusly invalidated your opinion due to your increasing subjectivity. and I shall take my actions accordingly.

What I got from that is Light is your run of the mill pessimist. You probably only thought he was profound because he's an actually pessimist instead of a wannabe pessimist.

Serial Experiments Lain actually has legitimate religious stuff. Watch that and tell me how profound Death Note is.

No, because even a pessimistic individual has some semblance of rationale.

Light is a nihilistic sociopath not at all different from Final Fantasy VI's Kefka, save for the fact that whereas Kefka's sociopathic tendencies are out in the open, Light is much more subtle about his, and while Kefka is unstable, he's arguably less mentally unstable than Light is.

You only think anything from Light's perspective sounds profound because very rarely, the protagonist takes a nihilistic viewpoint, and is an actual villainous figure. Unfortunately, the author botched his portayal of Light and even admitted that the reason he wrote the ending he did was so that he could destroy what the fanbase thought of their "Hero", and his "Profound" viewpoint of the world.

Quite the contrary. The idealistic notions of Light, along with the mockery of Ryuuk, are extremely profound. He has no God complex. The God thing was just a side effect of the Death note. A power game. Lights visions and dreams, along with his actions and planning make a large impact on the overall message.

I never sympathized with Light. I loved him for his ideals, and subjectivity. But there were so few such as he that actually see the world as he does. Boring. Doing the same thing over and over again. If you can't see how this is true, I can not continue discussion with you. You seriously can not see how incredible the hidden messages and religious notations are? Somebody who gives it enough thought can. I watched every episode three times before I got all of it.

"Kira has a very idealistic notion of right and wrong" is indeed a correct analysis from Lawliet, unfortunately you don't quite understand what he meant by that statement.

He's not saying Light is an idealist, that couldn't be more incorrect as Light is clearly a nihilist and follows the nihilistic school of thought, He is saying that "Kira's" belief of how to judge right from wrong is idealistic.

In an idealistic setting, you can tell right and wrong apart, and both are absolute constructs with little room for personal interpretation. This sounds nice on paper: when put into practice, it's a terrible system that fails to understand how "Right" and "Wrong" actually function, which is in varying shades of grey, while ideally it would be in Black and White.
