A class is either recognized as an AP course by the College Board or it isn't. The "Pre-AP" in the title is misleading and useless. Pretty much everyone in the States has six periods. Having more would be overkill, and inefficient, unless your school day is longer.
With seven hours of school and 6 periods, each class lasts about 55 minutes (if you take into account lunch and every passing period).
With 8 periods, the school day would have to be longer.

The College Board rustles my jimmies so hard. I get 4s-5s meanwhile the university I want to go to doesn't give a crap and I paid some hundreds of dollars for these courses.
Then some dopey ass kid is getting 2s and his university counts the credits.
