Charizard excells when it comes to speed AND strength which is why it is a good thing to have it on your competitive team.

Blaziken would outspeed it.

Charizard has a chance with Solar Power and Sunlight in place. It also resists both of Blaziken's STAB attacks, meaning it has to carry a coverage move. With only one slot for an auxiliary move, it can't boost like it usually would, thus rendering it bait and only moderately damaging Charizard at best.

[ Blaziken is Ubers because of Speed Boost and banned in competition, I think Charizard is UU. Blaziken is better for Ubers, Charizard would be better on a UU or OU team. ]

^ I knew that, but tier placement doesn't exactly measure a Pokemons Power.

If I had to give an example, then Slaking.

Slaking was OU during the R/S metagame, but was dropped to RU the following generation due to Traunt becoming an even larger liability, a spike in the use of Entry Hazards which cuts down on switching, and new Items like Choice Scarf making other Pokemon more viable alternatives.

At the same time, Scizor was in RU-BL until platinum, when it gained Bullet Punch.

While the environment around the metagame changed, the stats and performance of Pokemon didn't, meaning that when you want to compare 2 Pokemon, the tier system is only a reference to which is used more, not which one is superior.

The way I think of it is that each and everyones pokemon are unique in their own that being said a Hitmonchan ev trained in speed would excel in speed.
