SoL is one of the best genres, laaaame.
It actually has to rely on good character development etc. to be good. Not flashy animation or overly dramatic storylines. Also the stereotypical action anime gets boring and formulaic after a while.

Try out Macross Frontier, even though I haven't watched it myself.. I plan to. It's got sci-fi, romance(?), action, and its 24 episodes long (which isn't much, I guess).
