The following theory is only for people well-versed in the Doctor Who Universe, applying to both the classic and new versions of the programme.

Right, so, beginning. In the 1988 story Remembrance Of The Daleks, Davros, the creator of the Daleks, wishes to find the Time Lord weapon, the Hand of Omega (which the Doctor had hidden on Earth in 1963), to destroy Gallifrey and wipe out the Time Lords forever. Of course, in the actual story, the Doctor programmes the weapon to instead destroy Skaro, the Dalek homeplanet, and come back to Davros' ship to destroy him and the last Daleks in existence.

HOWEVER-- In the 1996 movie, the Daleks, on Skaro, sentence the Doctors archenemy, the Master, to death. Then, sometime after the movie takes place, the Time War begins. And, in recent lore, it's revealed that Gallifrey had 'sky trenches' that Daleks could never go through, but they come in swarms anyway to destroy the Time Lords. Plus, contrary to what was witnessed in 1988s Dalek story, Davros returns in the Series Four finale.

This leads me to believe that Remembrance Of The Daleks began a major split in the timeline; what we've seen since that story has been the product of the Doctor having failed at his attempt to destroy Skaro and the Daleks. My point is, on the flipside of what we've seen since 1988, the Time War didn't even begin cos the Daleks were already destroyed, and the Doctor still frequently kept in touch(ish) with his homeplanet during his 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and (soon to be) 12th lives. Also, no War Doctor. :/
This hasn't been confirmed or denied by the BBC, so keep in mind that for now, this is still just a fan-based theory, no matter how sound it may seem.
Which other Whovians here has had their minds blown by this?

Yeah, that all sounds incredibly stupid.
Language is a tool for efficient communication. The internet is a tool for fast communication. Do not defy both intents by posting incoherent writing.

^ Congratulations, now two people know exactly how I feel about the 'official' split in the Zelda timeline during Ocarina Of Time!

Also, I did say this theory was for people well-versed in the Doctor Who legend, which, clearly, you both aren't the slightest bit interested in. Go be trolls somewhere else, please.

^ I'm not being a troll, I watch Doctor Who and I was just implying that this theory was incredibly stupid. What about the Genesis Ark? There could easily be other Daleks that slipped through.

Oh, the Genesis Ark. You mean the one that wasn't on the ship in Remembrance, when it shows all the Daleks being destroyed?
Crush42 (2014-01-07 15:56:23)
BTW, every point that I used is part of BBC Doctor Who canon. All I'm stating is a logical explanation for the Daleks coming back after 1988. Everything else I've said is 100% official.
ConnorRonnoc (2014-01-07 19:01:42)
^ The Genesis Ark was a Prison Ship made by Time Lords, so naturally it would be under Time Lord Protection until the Cult of Skaro, who are used to create new versions of Daleks, stole it from them, they wouldn't even be on the Remembrance.

Also, some Daleks could've escaped by the use of Time Travel, it was revealed in Daleks in Manhattan that they could do this, how else would they get to the 1920's?

All of the Daleks were destroyed by either the Hand of Omega or the Doctor. The Cult of Skaro were Daleks who fled the Time War, happening after they were all killed in Remembrance. Up to that point, the Daleks couldn't touch Gallifrey to get the Genesis Ark in the first place. (Why would they need the Hand Of Omega to help destroy the Time Lords if they already had the means to do so?) And their time-travelling methods usually happen slowly, by chance, and on a scale big enough that the Doctor wouldn't have claimed that they were all destroyed. Doctor Who is littered in plotholes, but this is just a chance to explain away one of the biggest ones in the programmes history.

^ This theory has more holes in it than swiss cheese, only some of the Daleks were in the Genesis Ark, but there still would've been enough in there to swarm and destroy a planet, with or without the Hand of Omega. Plus the Genesis Ark is a Prison Ship. Who's to say that it wasn't being relocated or the Daleks could've broken into Gallifrey, they're freaking machines designed to kill.

The only theory I've said was that there is a split in the Doctor Who timeline. Everything else I've stated is BBC-approved fact. You are stating that Daleks used technology they didn't have to escape one of the greatest Time Lord weapons ever made, and assuming that the Daleks might have used the aforementioned technology they didn't have to infiltrate Gallifrey, which, if you've seen 'The Last Day,' officially defies all the counter-theories you've been making.
ConnorRonnoc (2014-01-09 15:49:42)
If the Daleks didn't have any strong weapons, the Time Lords wouldn't have any reason to kill them. But arguing over a TV Show is plain stupid. I won't be posting on this thread again.
