Have you read the Giver? Or how bout "5 People you meet in heaven"? Or "Night" by Elie Wiesel?


If you want a book series, then go to the Alex Rider books. It's about a kid spy, and the story of it all is really compelling.

Demonota - demons/mages all out war. very gory (favoirte series)
Cirque du freak - some gore
Anna Dressed in Blood - guy killing ghosts for a living. blood and guts

i like gory books

oh and Kite Runner - really sad and depressing

giver was pretty good for a school book.
